I'm gonna try pulling this engine out of my 2002 Nissan Altima 2.5L, 5 speed manual trans.
Engine threw a rod, blowing a hole on the side of the block. It needs replaced so here goes....
Any tips would be helpful. I may be doing things the long way, not familiar with any shortcuts. Most work already done at this point, so tips will help the next guy.

This engine will be coming out the front.
I am going to try to take an extra step and remove the front bumper and radiator/condenser and pull the engine out the front and leave the trans in the car by angling/rotating engine and trans and sliding the engine out from the transmission.
I cannot remove the engine from the bottom as I am not able to lift the car high enough.
If one removes the hood, I am confident the engine/trans assembly can easily be pulled out the top.
I am doing this outside on a gravel driveway. I will put a 4x8 board down on the gravel so I can roll an engine hoist around. I need to keep the hood on and the car in some sort of reasonable appearance so neighbors won't complain.
First, take lots and lots of pictures! They have always helped when I need to put things back together! So before I touch anything, I take pictures of everything from all different angles.
Removing axles. Because of clearance I don't think it is possible to slide out engine leaving the trans intact. So axles will have to come out. With the axles off I will be able to shift the trans around unhindered.

Remove intake and throttle body.

Remove the battery.
Unplug the fuse box from the positive battery cable and unclip it from the battery tray. Then remove the battery tray and battery tray support bracket.

The fuse box can be pushed to the side, out of the way. The other things go in the trunk.

Now, I am removing the harness from the engine. Alternatively, you can just go through the glove box and unclipping the harness there. So to remove the harness from the engine, these ground wires and the starter wires(located under battery tray) comes off.

You don't have to remove wires from car, just disconnect from engine block and leave the rest attached to the chassis.
Unclip three plugs from the drivers side, then the whole harness can be laid to the left.
