well..lately my engine temp gauge has been going haywire. i found out the problem. the wire that connects to the thermostat was slightly torn. i guess its mechanically connected to the gauge in the car. i just got some electric tape and made sure it was sealed. the gauge works perfectly. :)

indeed..you dont know how much i was shitting because i went to vegas this weekend and my needle would fluctuate all the way below C! it would have been one thing to know your car is heating up..but to see it on the gauge as almost below startup temp scared me. :)

From another thread if you don't know where it is.

the temp sending unit by the exhaust manifold is uncovered.

pop the hood
look near the alternator and exhaust manifold on the passenger side
locate the wire connected to the inlet for coolent to the head
there's a rubber cover that is supposed to go over where is connects
cover it back up and try it now

if still does it, it's nothing to worry about, trust me

a few ppl have had this problem, including myself. I accidently broke the connector that attaches to that little tower, and had to replace it with a OEM part. It was a whopping $14

I have that same problem with my 98. It really hasn't bothered me that much but in the last week it really moves from cold to hot really fast all the time. I will check that wire out tomorrow and see what's up.
