Front Radar Obstructed?

127662 Views 35 Replies 24 Participants Last post by  Ginger Boudreaux
You're driving at 70, interstate, heading west around 10 am. Cloudy day, temp around 80.

Beep! "FEB: Front Radar Obstructed" warning appears on the panel between tach and speedo.

The "collision warning system inactive" icon light comes on.

After a few minutes, the warning message goes off; the collision warning system light goes off.

Happens again after maybe ten minutes.

It never seems to happen on slower, country road driving.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

I've wondered how much trouble things in the road could make there.

Possible splash from someone's HVAC drain hose in front of you?
Register the defect with the dealer. Could just be a smashed dragonfly....
I once had one freak out because a bug splatted on the sensor, and of course everytime i drive in the snow.
I'd think it's bug splat too, but it only happens at high speed, and clears itself after a few minutes.

Where exactly on the Altima is that sensor, so I can check if something's stuck on hanging in front of it?
On both the Altima and Titan XD there is a series of sensors embedded on the front and rear bumpers for parking assist and the main CA radar is behind or near the Front Nissan emblem I think.
If you have the cruise control on but inactive '' cancelled, not switched off completely'' and any solid object get's any closer to the radar, the warning message and the icon of two clashing cars goes off. I had this happen twice to me when I drove inside a closed parking lot and got very close to walls and it all was because of the cruise control was on.
My 2018 SR does that when it's raining or if I hit a patch of water
I have the same issue with my 2018 Altima. Heading to dealership on Friday to have it looked at. Happens with a couple minutes of driving. Really hope they can fix it.

JG - please let us know how it goes at the dealer. I've had my 18 Altima at dealer at couple of times for routine maintenance. Service tech says there is no known fix for the problem yet.

I know that they were replacing the defective radar units with the same faulty sensors. I haven't heard if they have received updated shipments yet.
Some '18 Muranos were having the same problem, mine being one of them! They replaced the unit and all now seems well.
Ok, the dealer is gonna replace the sensor (have to order it). Will inform everyone if it takes care of the problem when it is replaced. Said it would take 2.5 to 3 hrs to replace.
Hi,
There is a fix for this issue with your dealer. However, it is a process. The DTC code we will receive is a radar stain code. They will inspect if your radar is clean. If it is not clean they will clear the code and return the vehicle back to you, If the stain code is on with a clean radar, they will replace the radar sensor. The vehicle must be aligned with this service and it does take a couple of hours to complete.
Dealer replace the icc sensor and at this point everything seems to be working a it should. No more problems.

Thanks for posting this. I've been having the same thing happen on my '18 at 16K miles, though not as often as yours seemed to. Will be having the car diagnosed for an airbag light next week, and will ask them to look at this as well.

Did they charge you? I thought it was included in my warranty but Nissan said that specific part isn’t and it’ll cost over 1500$

This started with my 2018 Altima SR almost immediately after purchasing new last summer. Usually when raining or wet or dirty road conditions. It has become a real nuisance lately going off when weather clear as it did today twice in the 20 minute trip to dealer for another issue. When I mentioned to service mgr he brushed it off saying it "could be looked at." I will also post about gas filling issue I have when I find that thread.

No charge at all. Was under warranty
I have the same issue with my Nissan Kicks SR 2018. Lately, when i drive on the highway, it will beep and show UNAVAILABLE FRONT RADAR OBSTRUCTION. I contacted Nissan and told me to call my local service specialist. If i take this to them, will they fix it and free of charge? I bought mine last October 2019.
