Help! 2011 Versa hatchback

I tried to simply replace my old plate with the new with zero luck separating anything. It was like the screw and that stupid plastic bit was melted together. So about two hours later my father ended up cutting it off. It's obviously a mess. I taped new plate inside back hatch until I get double sided tape tomorrow and find a solution.

I searched Google but couldn't find a similar situation or solution but I'm probably not looking for the right thing. What can I do to get my plate back where it belongs?

A cheap strip of Home Depot flat aluminum stock maybe 1 inch wide 1/8" thick would bolt across that entire hole to then use sheet metal screws to locate using the plate to locate exactly where they were before. Easy as spit and cost certainly under $15 and likely $10.
