98 Alt GXE, auto, 60K mi on it. rpm is high up to 1500 and quickly drop to 1100 but will not drop to ~700 when start the cool eng. any problem? is it normal? shift to driving(D) from parking can feel a little shake. can any one give some advices? Thanks a lot.

It's normal. Once the engine warms up, the idle RPM will drop to ~750 - ~800.

If it's a one-time "shake" from Park to Drive, that's normal.

If the shaking continues after the engine is warmed up, and the transmission shifts erratically, then there's something wrong. You might want to check your transmission fluid levels, and check the cleanliness of the transmission fluid. It should be a fairly clear purple/pink color. Dab it on a white napkin, and see if there are black particles in it. If there are, then you need to have the Transmission Fluid flushed and replaced.

If it has 60K miles on it, you want to make sure that the Transmission Fluid and the Engine Coolant were both changed. Under a good maintenance schedule, these fluids should be changed every 40K - 50K miles.

Since most people don't keep there cars more than 50K miles, most people don't know that this should be done.
