Been having overheating problems on 95 Altima. Though the car overheats, and both hoses get hot, the temp gauge only goes up to just below the halfway mark.

After installing thermostat and coolant temp sensor, the fans do not go on though the car is overheating. I have changed out the coolant and bled the air out of the cooling system. I have checked relays and fuses and the fans, which work when I apply 12 volts. Instead of replacing the temp sending unit, I'd like to test it first, but would also like to be able to test the wiring side of it--the wire that connects to the sending unit. Could anyone advise me on a good test for the wiring side?

Thanks for any ideas or advice.
