Hello,

I am moving to Germany in a few months and will be buying a Skyline GT-S25t from a sergeant in the US Army there. I will only be spending a year in Germany, and I was wondering if it was possible at all to bring the Skyline back with me when I return to the United States. If so, what procedure would I have to take? Thanks in advance.

Well, the whole thing fell through. I can't go to Germany after all (long story) and the Skyline was sold to somebody else. :( But yeah, that's all? Just a title? I thought it'd be more considering it cost quite a bit to get a skyline fixed up for US laws through Motorex (which is now defunct.)

BTW, nismo33, that is one beautiful Skyline! I test drove one like that a few months ago. Loved it. :)

Hmmm I wonder if there would be much work at all to get mine a "U.S. title" as mine has already been though a similar system in Australia and has now been "complied" to Australian standards. The Australian compliance process involves the following:

- Ensuring the exhaust is less than 91 db
- Changing to tyres that meet Australian standards
- Oils and filters
- Australian compiled seat belts.
- Side intrusion bars.
- Unleaded only sticker on the fuel door plus unleaded fuel restrictor for our pumps.
- Tyre placecard - if you have non-standard wheels.
- Little sticker on the passenger rear view mirror indicating "Objects are closer than they appear". :)

Have to wonder what else (if anything) would have to be changed to suit the U.S. standards. Especially considering how strict the Australian standards are with just about everything. :banghead:

Thanks Gangis, they are awesome cars. Sorry to hear the one you were after was sold. Maybe there is another way of getting one somehow?

It is not just a US Title. You have to have all your glass changed over to meet DOT Standards, pass emissions (Maybe Cali depending on where you import the car to) and in some cases the bumpers need to be changed in order to meet the DOT standards as well. (This is more for old VWs as they have no major reinforcement in the nose, case in point, the old Sciroccos have small bumpers here where they stick out about 6 inches in the states)
All of this must be performed by a licensed importer. But yes, mainly paperwork.... PS there are 3 skylines FS in the Stars and Stripes right now here in Germany ;)

No you dont "have" to change it. There are a few cars in the states where the wheel is on the right side. There are a ton of cars around here that are on the opposite side. (Germany, contrary to most does in fact drive on the same side as the US)
