Last Friday I drove across town to pick up the wife and kids to head to the cottage. Car worked fine through 20 minutes of moderate traffic in 70F temps. I stopped and turned off the car for like 5 minutes to get them loaded, then started out again. I stalled the car backing out (way to go dad :banghead:), which is unusual, but I thought that it was just me. It starts right back up and I head out on the road. The car revs a little and then just bucks and jerks like it can't rev anymore than about 2000rpm. I can barely accelerate. I notice that when I push the clutch in and let it idle, the RPM's are around 1100 (not the normal 600-700 like when it is warm). There was no SES light at all. I drove for a couple of miles until I found a safe spot to turn off and stop. I noticed a very rich smell from the exhaust before I shut it down. I let it set a minute or two, and then restarted it. It has been fine ever since (about 300 miles so far). Does this sound like limp mode?

Anyone want to take a guess at a possible cause?

Yes, that does sound like limp mode.
I believe the reason could be because you stalled. It has happened to me before, however I stalled a couple of times in a row (I must have had a bad day) and then it went to limp mode. i shut the car off for a bit and everything was normal thereafter.

Mine went into limb mode tonight as I was passing another vehicle on the highway. I've never stalled it out. This is the second time its gone into limb mode since I purchased it back in 2005. The first time was when the MAF went bad.

Well I used a CodeScout OBDII scan tool to read the fault code. The code that came up is P1102. And it said it was "Traction Control Solenoid Fault". So I googled the code and it came up with "MAF Sensor In Range But Lower Than Expected". I take out the MAF and used CRC Mass Air Flow cleaner and cleaned out the air filter box. I cleared the fault code and the restarted the motor. The idle was at 1200 rpms so I give it gas and it still bogs down at 2.5K rpms ahd SES light came right back on. So I guess I need to replace the MAF.
I trying to avoid taking it the a garage.

I have the same problem and suspect a MAF, which is on order. It goes into limp mode at least 1 time each day, so I have MASTERED the ECU reset. I can even do it while I am coasting downhill without my stopwatch!!!

Switch ignition on for 3 seconds, then pump accelerator 5 times hard, fully release the accelerator pedal,
wait 7 seconds, then push and hold accelerator down 10 seconds, then up for 10 seconds, then down for over 10 seconds ( I do 13). Then switch off and it should be reset.

Thanks, I try resetting the ECU. Its that simple?

This will be the second MAF replacement in 3 years.

That happened to my 02 2.5 last month. All I did was disconnect the maf and plugged it back in, and it worked fine.
I disconnected and plugged it back in but its is still running in limp mode.

If you do have a bad MAF replace it with an AM600.
The J0000 MAFs are weak and have been nothing but problems with the 3rd gens.
You can find the AM600 MAF on 01-03 Infiniti 3.5s.
I've had an AM600 in my car for years and it's been bulletproof.

The 05+ have different MAFs that are not interchangeable with the 02-04 MAFs.
Thank God, this issue sounds horrible and frustrating. If anyone has had this issue with a 05+ let us know!

i got a 2003 sentra SER 2.5 5 speed that will only idle in limp mode with the maf unplugged, with maf plugged in it just sputters but no start? 9 WHILE IN LIMP MODE THERE IS NO REACTION TO ACCELERATOR, any suggestions??? Ive tried resetting the ecu and clearing code by disconnecting battery, also bought new MAF with no change, I swapped the tps as well and there either both bad or it wasn't the problem either

Actually its the 02-03 2.5 and 3.5 that have the 22680-8J000 and the 04-06 have the newer ones 22680-CA000.

From all the research I did the 02-03 3.5 can use the AM600. If you have an 02-03 2.5 I think you have to use the 22680-8j000 since the AM600 was only designed for 3.5 engines.

I have a 02 3.5 and replaced it with the AM600. Hard to find since most Junkyards are too lazy to look at the actual part number.
