I have consistenly seen these problems with the 02 posted on this site:

1) thumping in rear suspension (not the gas sloshing)
2) whistiling/wind noise in sun roof
3) poor radio reception
4) steering wheel vibration between 40-50 mph
5) rear doors don't line up properly

What others are there?

(I'm interested in the problems, not complaints about the quality of the interior, or the stiff ride, etc.)

Thanks

I've had a clunking noise in the front suspension. The dealer is replacing the steering rack as we speak. From a previous search I think that there are 1-2 others with the same problem.

I agree with the noise in the moonroof, mine is better since they fixed it (and is actually the same as a friend's I30) but in reality, all my other cars, no noise from the moonroof at all. I think the problem/condition is a result of the airflow over the car making the noise. This is supported by people with the plastic lip not having problems with the noise.

The trunk noise from the wires and connector hitting the aluminum (lighweight) trunk just gets amplified. Fixed by using some duct tape.

Of course with my particular car, the service engine light, next week is their "official final time" to get it fixed. Unfortunately, due to the heavy rains this past weekend, I found out that the windshield they they replaced because the service departement cracked the origional one, leaks!

As much as I really enjoy the car, I am having problems accepting Nissan quality. Never in my dreams would I think that a Nissan would worse then a Ford in terms of problems.

constant problems...

i think the paint quality (ex. chipping way too easy) is a common complaint.

I dunno about that, Unleaded. Have you seen the sticky on Maxima.org about the horrible paint quality some folks have observed on their late-model Maximas, particularly the black ones? The biggest problem is chipping, of which I've seen very few complaints around here.

I haven't had any of the problems mentioned above except for the thumping in the rear. It doesn't happen all the time.

My car was build in Feb and has none of those problems. So far its perfect. Oh what a difference from my old Chrysler Intrepid(The A/C on my Intrepid was bad from delivery and the window regulator failed on day two).

That ticking noise in the back ...

Always there when it gets really really cold.

I'm going to take the covers out in the trunk and tape down every single wire I see behind the light assemblies ... that should do the trick ...

... and if not ... I'll just go mad. No problem.

Joe :)

Check the front lower edges of your rear doors they protrude ever so slightly and catch all the rocks flying off the front wheels. I have 5000 km and I have 8 chips in this spot. Car has never been driven on a dirt road! and I have the mud guards!

nissans 800 number? bad altima engine

above is the title of my thread started that has most of the detail of the failure.

The car started, at which point I heard a sound like a bearing floating around in the valve train. It didn't adjust speed with RPM of the engine so I figured something had broken free, and it also only lasted for the first 5 to 10 minutes or starting the car. However after it would go away the car would work hard to go, and did not have anywhere near the pickup it originally had. It would also almost stall at stops or at idle. I had to baby it to keep it running. The first 2 times it happened I didn't get anything on the service engine soon light, after the second time it seemed to spit out a bunch of codes then the light stayed on...
This resulted in me making two trips because the service guys wouldn't look at it without the SES light on or the noise still occuring. As luck would have it that dealer was a good 15 minutes away or so.

Anyways thats what it sounded like to me ... the service guy said they would be sending the engine to nissan engineering to have them see what failed. I don't know if I'll find out anything more than that, but I'll ask.

I might be the luckiest mo fo around here. I haven't had any one of these problems (Knocking on wood). no thumping in rear suspension, no whistiling/wind noise in sun roof, no poor radio reception, no steering wheel vibration between at any speed. I have only had one problem. The airbag light was blinking...took it to the dealer and they said I had to replace the driver side airbag system. I am taking it in this weekend to et fixed.

Noises in the back...

I also have the same problem. When it is really cold outside, the speakers seem to be loose or something. Every little bump in the road causes major squeaking from the speakers.

After I have the radio on for awhile and the heater kicks in, the sound goes away.

Anyone else have this problem?
