Hello,

Yesterday while excellerating on the highway, my '03 3.5SE lost power, sputtered and won't go over 2500 rpms. Error Code 1102.

I'm picking up a new MAF sensor today after work. 2 questions:
1)Do I just remove the torx(?) bolts holding the MAF into the aid duct?

2)After replacing, do I need to unhook the battery for a few hours to reset the ECM or reset via Diagnostic mode SES clear?

Thanks, I've searched and searched and can't locate these questions.

1.Your first question is dead on, it's that easy to remove.
2. I don't think you need to left the battery unhooked for a few hours.. maybe a minute or two? As soon as it's disconnected everything resets automatically once reconnnected.

most come with the housing if not undo the torx bolts. the relearn procedure is on the maf failure poll sticky towards the top. try the battery thing first.

I'd say disconnect the battery before you remove the maf, and re connect once done and then perform the idle air relearn procedure.

OK, I installed the MAF and now the car runs normally (not in limp-mode).
I can't seem to fix the SES light. I can clear it through the Dx procedure, but then it comes back ON blinking every 3 seconds, then solid when engine runs.

I tried the idle air relearn, but I think I'm missing a step. I can get to the DX mode, while still holding the accelerator, continue holding until the SES goes solid. THen release and start the engine? The SES never goes OFF. Just stays on...?

THanks for any help.

Did you try resetting the ECU before you purchased the new MAF?

I thought I had a blown MAF too, and after resetting the ECU (it was in limp mode) my car has been running fine.

you own an altima you should own your own code reader anyway!! The first tool that should be bought for any car is a code reader. walmart $89 The light will reset on its own just drive it for 30 miles. Like he said maf usually doesnt make your light blink. Upstream 02's are ususally the problem.

So Im bringing this thread back from the dead because this just happened to me. I have an 02 3.5 with almost all the bolt on's, no cats, full exhaust. I was driving my car yesterday and it was driving fine. This morning I got up for work and went out to drive away and it wouldnt rev up above 2500. I limped it to work but Im going to undo the battery and see if it resets the ECU. Im pretty sure its not the MAF because I made it out of the driveway and it idles fine. I just wanted to see what every one else thought.

You might be alright Wes. I have been through a true MAF failure before and that did involve bad idling, car running rich (extreme smell of gasoline), no power above 2500RPM.

Anyway, I've also had the replacement MAF go limp on me (VIAGRA FTW) :lolrun:

I managed to get her home and came back out about 20-30 minutes later and she started up and could rev to the red line. I think our cars sometimes can be a little temperamental. Good luck and keep us posted!

when i blew my maf i could not drive it at all, it would start and die instantaneously. with any luck letting the battery sit may fix it. although it did nothing for me...
Yeah thats why Im kind of leaning towards it just being the ECU just needing reset. I was able to drive my car into work today but it sucked shifting at 2500. I forgot half the time and it would start bucking and jerking every time i hit 2500rpm.

IF you have VQ35DE, go with 22680-AM600 from Maxima or G35 MAF, don't use crappy 8j000 unless you have QR engine. Go to car-part.com you will find it for about $50+shipping. AM600 unfortunately is not for QR25DE.

^^^yes. do this...

i went through 2 junk yard mafs and 2 nissan $500 mafs (replacements covered) and on my 3rd nissan one after the parts department said i couldnt get another if this one died. i went for the g35 maf. hooked it up to my cai right away. its been over 2 years since i have had a problem...

a few weeks ago i replaced my cai with my air box that had the new maf from nissan on it.... sure enough about 30min ago i blew this maf....
back to the g35 one...i will never buy another altima maf. even if this one goes...

I have QR engine and tried AM600 but the car didn't run well with that and got MIL. I don't know if AM600 is compatible with QR or I just got bad MAF from junk yard. FIY, I got full refund.
