What amp would you perfer using to power your subs. I have'nt gotten the subs yet but I'm looking at either the Mtx 8000 or the Kicker solarbarics L7's. I want to power 10s. I think that 12s would give me too much of a rattle and I'm not into bass all that much, I more like to hear the clarity rather than the thump. Any suggestions people?

lol, so is this a 2-fer thread?

are we talking about the big monoblocks? Well, if you don't know what subs you're getting go with the JBL (bp1200.1), it's the only one that puts out the same power at both 1 and 2 ohms.. the MTX (81000D) isn't stable to 1 ohm.. Not sure about RF's big amps, but I can almost guarantee they'll be more expensive..

for SQ I wouldn't go with any of those subs..

If your not looking for big bass then you might want to check the lower end sub's for MTX,RF,JL,JBL and any other ones. You'll save money and still have full sound out of your music. Just get 1 12" Kicker Comp,MTX 4000, or RF Punch Z or HE and get the JBL 1200.1 TL's talking about, and after awhile if you want to start bumpin just get higher end Sub's and your amp should already be set.

?

So should I just do 1 ten inch or 1 twelve inch to power the bass. I'll go with the JBL1200, but for the woofers I cant decide. If I go with one 10 inch should it be the Rockford or the Mtx 8000s. I think the 12 inch would rattle the car too much and I dont want that. You guys have the subwoofer set up already so I'm going on your suggestions. I also what to have a box built and have it ported through the rear deck, do you think that this is a good idea?

It's really up 2 U, there both good brands. A 10" will rattle your car just as much as a 12", & a 12" can sound just as quiet as a 10", it's all in how much of the gain on the amp is turned up. If U just want 2 give your music a little more Depth than stock than get any 10" MTX or RF U can find in your price range & turn the gain on the amp to suit your needes. Now if U want 2 have a little more Depth most of the time and Occasionally bump your shit than get 2 10" & turn the gain up 2 suit your needs. You don't sound like U wanna thunderous so just buy either a MTX 4000 or RF Punch HE, whichever is cheaper, and set the gain Accordingly 2 your needs. I got 2 12" JL's in a sealed box and it is loud and rattles everthing so I'm not sure about the port, stick around, someone will hit ya up.

I built a "vented enclosure" for my 12L7 which is close, the difference being no pvc pipe needed.

If your just looking for a little more depth, then I would honestly suggest putting the sub in a sealed box. You wont get as loud, but it sounds MUCH cleaner that way. You'll also have a better freq. range then with a ported box.

I totally agree, if it's good, clean sound you're after, a ported cheap sub isn't the way to go.. I'd look into A/D/S & Boston Pro subs..

If it was me i would go with a single 12 over a pair of tens. it will be a lot cheaper, go in a smaller box, and able to produce the really low stuff.
Honestly it sounds like you are really a candidate for a sealed box, but i have built a lot of ported boxes and they can be just as good sounding as a sealed.

What would i recommend

Alumapro Alchemy- great for natural sounding bass this is just a great sounding sub period, not made for getting super loud, but the aluminum cone and magnet structure are very classy for a show install... can't go wrong with this one.

IDQ- nice tight low hitting sub- great all round sub,

Adire Shiva- The best of everything... sounds awesome, cheap, loud, efficient as hell and hits deeper than just about anything you can imagine.

Adire Brahma- this sub is expensive, but it just blew me away, i have 400 watts on it and it gets pretty loud but it sounds better than just about anything i have ever heard, maybe even better than the IDSPL that i used to have... only more listening will tell. If you have $380 for a sub i can think of NO better way to spend the money!!!

Boston Pro- For the ultimate in a super tight bass this sub can really deliver, while there is better combinations of SPL and SQ subs out there, this one is severely lopsided to the SQ side.

Eclipse Aluminium- Very nice and buttery smooth sub it has great sound quality, but it is not really that efficient and it is fairly expensive, the aluminum cone is also VERY classy and if you are into a show system this is a great sub to consider.

What would i not recommend

RF HX2- gets pretty loud, sounds OK but if SQ is is the main priority get something else

Kicker L7- Expensive, LOUD and sound like ass, if you want a sub for getting loud get this, if you want a great sounding sub put this next to the RF HX2 and the HX2 will sound as good as a Velodyne, put it next to a good SQ sub and you realize that it really is that bad sounding.

yeah... if u want clear sound without rattles dont get a ported box... i have 2 12" subs in a dual ported box and i just covered up the ports because it wasnt clean enough and made my car rattle too much... not as loud now but is much cleaner and deeper sound.

If you are looking for SQ do NOT get RF subs...... They are really loud, but aren't the cleanest hitting subs. Kinda sloppy, but I like it that way. :D

subwoofers

Thanks for your help and suggestions fellas, you cats are real helpful. I like the eclipse woofer, but they are mad expensive. So I guess the kicker and the Fosgate is out of the question for the sound I want. So what do you think about the Mtx 8000, are they too loud also? A friend of mines has Jl Audio W3 in 12's (2) and they sound pretty good. What do ya'll think of those?

JBL will give you a good combo of SQ/SPL. They sound really good, but they don't get loud enough for me!

My 12L7 is a SPL monster!
