Does it not work like it used to? Is there a new noise? Does it behave erratically?

Something has changed or you wouldn't have posted...care to share?

It's probably a leak somewhere in the system. Have someone check the high and low side refrigerant pressures to start with. I doubt very much it's the compressor or clutch but it could have gone internally...in which case you would need a full on flush/and replace many parts to make sure the metal particles don't destroy your new compressor.

#1 is to check the pressures.
low side is usually around the ball park of 25-30.
High side is 2.5x the ambient temperature (ie 80* outside temp= 200psi high pressure)
You could buy a can with a gauge on it and top it off.
Do not buy the one with stop leak. It does more damage than good and will still leak out.
