New Altima Owner (93 GLE)

Hey guys, I just turned 18, and I bought this Altima and my own insurance myself. This is my second time around with a car, I had a 98 Explorer Sport, but got in a really bad wreck in May, arrested, dropped from insurance, the whole deal. My parents said they wouldnt buy me another car. OK, so now I finally got another car, and my the GM at Bankston Nissan here in Dallas who sold my dad his previous 3 Maxima's hooked me up with a great deal. Its a 93 GLE, and the guys at the dealership say its got everything offered in 1993. My favorite is the heads up display.

So with this new car I have a couple questions I was hoping yall could help me out with:

1) Regarding the keyless entry, the previous owner either lost or didnt turn in the remotes, and the dealership says they can sell me one and program it for $83.50. What I was wondering is if its possible to reprogram the extra remote from my dads 98 Maxima GLE? Because that would sure be nice, but I don't know if it would work.

2) Its got the premium sound system, according to the dealership, but the previous owner had replaced the OEM head unit with a Pioneer DEH-P2100. The car has 6 speakers, and 2 Clarion amps in the trunk. Model numbers EN-9611-54 (front) and EN-9611-55 (rear). After being unable to find any info about them online, I had a buddy that works at CarToys take them out and hook them up to this computer that measures their performance, like a Dyno test for amps. He gave me a print out which says the front amp is putting out 38.7 watts RMS x 2, and rear is doing almost identical at 39.4 watts RMS x 2. He also told me that the amps were not doing anything, and that I needed to get an OEM Interface Adaptor called VEN 4.5 in order to get the amps working with the aftermarket deck. Does this sound correct or like he has no idea what he is talking about?

3) The car looks like it has little to no tint on it. What kind of tint is normal for the Altimas. I don't want it really dark like 20%, I want it to look factory. What % tint would that be?

4) Lastly, I want to add a sunroof visor to the roof, like on the Maximas. Can yall point me in the right direction as to where to get one?

Please forgive me for this huge post, and check out my new ride!

oh wow...congrats on your car. i know the feeling of owning your first car. too bad my first car was/is 85 Volvo. The Altima in my sig is my gf's.

1) factory service manual (get one if you're thinking about modding your car) doesnt' say anything about the key fob remote. You can try posting in forums.maxima.org 4th gen forum and ask how they reprogram their fobs.

2) Your friend probably means you're still using the stock speakers right? If so, they're probably run off the bose built in speaker amps. I suggest you get new speakers or bypass the individual speaker amps.

3) I have 32% tint on my car on all doors and rear window. looks stock to me and others, but sun rays don't hurt anymore. Yay! Remember to check your local laws about tints/films.

4) measure the width of the sunroof opening and get an aftermarket visor. if you must have oem nissan, then ask Greg V for his pricing.

Welcome! Clean ride bro.

I've got a sun roof deflector that I'm trying to sell. I had it on my 95 GLE...

E-mail me at [email protected] if you're interested. Thanks.

I almost have the exact car as you, but no keyless entry :( and mine is black.

I recently had a new head-unti installed, and they just by-passed the amps. No reason to use them with the stock speakers, as most HUs will put out enough power.

Congrats!!

Not true. The amps are rated 38.7 watts RMS x 2 and 39.4 watts RMS x 2. Translated into max ratings, which you are referring to, that is about 80 watts MAX x 2 for each amp. The aftermarket decks put out at the most 52 watts MAX x 4, which is really only 23 watts MAX x 4, as compared to using the Clarion amps which are running at 38.7 and 39.4 watts. Paired with some Infinity Perfect speakers, that would create an excellent system, with half the money. Someone, please let me know if I am wrong, but I don't believe so.

Thanks for the offer, but I am going to go OEM on this one.

One more thing, anyone that does have a 93 Altima and the keyless entry remote, if you could let me know the numbers on the back like the FCC ID, etc, and what buttons it has, lock, unlock, trunk, etc. Thanks alot yall!
i know this sounds stupid but whats heads up display?
daemon126,

Heads-up Display was a feature that was standard equipment on Altima GLEs for the model years 1993-1995. As far as what is does, it is a little black hump on the left side dashboard between the steering wheel and the windshield that houses a projector. Important information like your speed, if there are any door open, etc. is projected onto the windshield, in the bottom left area directly above the projector unit. It is very useful making it unnecessary to take your eyes off the road to see how fast you are going. The feature can be turned off or dimmed via a switch on the instument panel. I love it!

An optional device that displayed speed and some other info on the windshield. I believe they were only available on 93-94 GLEs.

Cool, it seems like you really did your homework. Nice car, possibly the classiest Altimas ever made.
Yeah I did, I'm trying to learn everything about this car, inside and out. One of these days I'm going to go pick up one of those Chilton's manuals, learn even more about it, especially the maintence side. Plus, I think these Forums will be a great source of info as well.

chilton's? don't settle for chilton's...get the grand daddy factory service manual that's like 3" thick and full of more info that you could wish for. Heh.
Appleman is correct in saying bypass the stock speaker amps, especially since they run 1 or 2 ohms, or something insanely low.. And yes, your afermarket amp should give cleaner louder noise, especially when paired with adequate aftermarket speakers. Those stock whizzer paper cone tweeters are a joke.
Jay
I've never understood ohms, and probably never will. But I do hear where the both of you are coming from. I stand corrected, I guess I was just trying to keep from having to replace everything in the car. But my dad's 98 Maxima has the Bose system, and it is anything but a joke. But then I believe the Maxima Bose systems run each speaker off an individual amp. O well, I will just have to wait a little bit longer to buy my new system. I've already decided on the Pioneer DEH-P7400MP as my head unit, then I have an Alpine V12 F-357 5 channel amplifier in my closet I was planning on selling, but I will just use it in the Altima. It's a great amp, puts out some sick wattage. I will probably end up getting some Infinity Kappas all around and a JL Audio sub. I already sold my JL sub in a bandpass box from my Explorer, and am kicking myself for it now.

ThurzNite, Where can I get a Factory Service Manual for a 1993 Altima?
Hey yall, as far as the keyless entry issue I'm having, the dealership tells me the part number is 999U7-6A002.

There are quite a few remotes for sale on eBay with the following numbers on the backside of the remote:
FCC ID: KOBUTA3T
CANADA: 1983 101 784
TRW: 3165189

For those of you with 1993 Altima, or any 1st Gen for that matter, do these numbers match yours? If not, what numbers are on yours?

Thanks!
all deflectors are the same if simans 82 gives u a good price go for it..only difference would be the "gto" sticker..which i am guessing can be taken off.other then that it is just a piece of plastic that is held down with 3m tape
need a sunroof deflector? $50, brand new in box, plus like $6-7 to ship. GTS brand

if you're cheap like me, just check out ebay once in a while. Expect to pay ~50 cuz it's $120 new. I got mine for $35+5ship from a middle aged lady who got in and accident and car was declared a total loss. She bought the book thinking she would outsmart the local mechanics, but she admitted to never opening it. It was put on ebay and nobody bid on it (opening bid was $25). I just said 35+ship and she said ok!

Jason: Congrat. Nice car, man. But where's the SSS emblem?
