Nissan could be bringing a new passenger minivan to the U.S.

Spied by The Truth About Cars reader Felix, this heavily camouflaged passenger van was seen in California and at first, presumed to be a second-generation Nissan NV200 compact passenger van. However, after comparing the spy photos with pictures of a Nissan Serena, it’s clear that’s what is seen in the photos, which is out of place considering the van isn’t sold in the U.S.

In overseas markets, the Nissan Serena is offered with a hybrid powertrain featuring a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and a CVT and is marketed as a seven- or eight-seater MPV.

According to Felix, who shared the photos, the two vans were spotted on I-80 near Vacaville, California located about halfway between Sacramento and San Francisco. Nissan does have a Silicon Valley research facility about an hour-and-a-half south of Vacaville.

The Nissan Serena’s appearance in the U.S. is interesting considering minivans are slowly dying in the marketplace. This is also the first time we have seen evidence the company is looking to offer the Serena in the U.S.
