No power when pressing gas pedal

So..i searched a little bit, but couldn't find anything. I'm also kinda freaked out, so I may have missed it if this has been discussed. A few minutes ago, I was driving home. I was at a red light. When it turned green, and I pressed the gas pedal..the car recieved BARELY any power. It barely moved....It moved a LITTLE BIT, but nothing that is normal. Then, after about 5 secs of pressing the pedal....it all of a sudden had life..and surged forward. I had cars behind me and I though they were going to hit me!

Has anyone else had this issue, or know what this might be? I was turning left at that red light.and I was able to make the turn...but the car had nowhere near as much power as it is supposed to.

Oh, and this is a 2.5, 2009...thanks!

sounds like you may be experiencing the cvt lag or hesitation. I'd take it to the dealer to have them check it ouf if your odometer is under 120k miles. CVT warranty covers everything under 120k miles.

Mine did that in the beginning, then had random jerkiness, then it flagged the SES lights. Had mine replaced at 43k miles. Got my 09 2.5 used at 34k miles. So far no problems and I hope it stays that way...I'm at 51k miles
yeah...I thought it might be that...I just didn't know THAT was what everyone was talking about as far as the "surge" or hesitation...It's kinda scary lol. But yeah, I am still way under 120K miles.
That has happened to me a couple times. I just thought it was a fluke
no it's no fluke and in fact I think it's tell tale signs that the SES lights will come on...just a matter of time.

Happened to me once turning left. The CVT has a protection from high temperatures that puts it into a limp mode. Part of your cvt dying. Whining would be next after the tranny warms up. Just had mine replaced at 175km. Took the tech out for a spin after it was warmed up and within a block, he said the belts were slipping causing the noise. A couple days later, new one is in and boy can you tell the difference between the two. Time for you to visit your dealer.
I remember reading a post I think it was couple years ago; if the CVT is overworked such as stuck in mud or snow or excessive stop and throttle the CVT will shutdown to "protect" itself leaving just enough throttle to move off the road if necessary and will fully recover some minutes later. I remember this was to "protect" the transmission before any damage occurs.. I remember this because I live in the mountains and thought that one day that could happen to me. I always thought that it was a "safeguard" and the CVT would not be damaged if it happened...were you using excessive slow down & throttle at the time such as weaving in and out enough for it to shutdown to protect?
LOL...wellll.....i MAY have been going about 85 weaving in an out of traffic...I was in a rush to get home :p
Should of bought the V6... LOL JK

Could be a glitch in the TCM programming.

Yeah..but I gotta say...I don't really have any hesitation problems...it was just that one time...and I was flooring it..and then having to slow down..and floor it again...so maybe that is why it did what it did...to.."protect itself"

That is the answer. The CVT was doing what it was supposed to do and it gives you just enough power to get out of traffic until it recovers, I doubt you did any damage. I've been waiting for it to happen to me on these mountain roads, i have to floor it to pass trailer trucks & slow traffic and then break behind busses etc. then floor it again but so far no problem but it's always in the back of my mind. I love the CVT ! Good Luck:wave:
was the motor revving like normal and the car just won't move or did it seem like the motor wasn't revving up either?
I was blasting music, so I really can't remember...I just know that I took my exit off the interstate. I stopped at the light to turn to turn left. When it turned green, I hit the gas pedal to go, and the car moved...but nowhere NEAR the way it was supposed to...It had a lot of drag to it and lag....I thought I was breaking down...Then, BAM, it kicked back in and drove right

Good question.....if the motor was not revving up and the car won´t move, seems the TPS at the acc pedal assembly, is faulty..but the SES light should be on. This experience was with a friend's car of mine... Altima QR too.

Nope, SES light is not on.

If it happens again, pay attention to the RPMs and what the car is doing. If it's the transmission, the motor should still rev up, but the car will barely move. if it's something on the motor causing the problem, it should barely rev. I'm thinking it's most likely something on the transmission, especially since when those trans get hot, the car barely works, and those things are always running hot.
Mine did this for 18 months before the Throttle Body triggered the "Service Engine Soon" light. Got the Throttle Body replaced and the lag from a red light suddenly went away!

Mine does the same thing and I had the CVT replaced right before 120K Miles due to other issues, but it still does that surging or hesitation thing every now and then at random times. Did you get yours replaced? Does it still surge/hesitate?

Try cleaning, or replacing, the throttle body.

I have a 2016 Nissan Rogue and it is under 100K and they will not honor the extension because they say I notified them too late.
