it's not even about language. it's either a resistor or capacitor that goes in-line between the sensor and ecu. You can probably get it at radio shack
as for the timing advance, if you don't know what the specifications are, you could possibly screw your ecu over and be running in "safe" mode, aka: limp home mode. Your rpms will probably be rev-limited around 4000. The good thing is, you'll never knock, even if you use the lowest grade gas.
