I have a 1993 G20 and am considering making the switch over to the Altima. I was thinking about either a 93-94 SE 5spd.

What are the selling points that would make me sell my G20 and buy an altima?
What should I look for when buying my altima?
Are there any major engine problems?
Any electrical problems?

just telling him would have taken just as long to type. 99% of the stuff in this forum has been discussed before so why doesnt everyone just type "search" as the 2nd post on every topic. people talk about how sick they are of hearing about altezzas. im just as sick of seeing the word "search" on every damn topic. even if u search, so much stuff comes up that it doesnt really help that much.

i have a 95 altima in mint condition with 46k miles, leather int, kenwood all around, white face gauges, PR cai, UR underdrive pulley, eibach prokits, (soon to be new michelins w/kyb's all around), 2 1/4 inch custom exhaust w/ Dynomax turbo muffler, front STB, NGK wires, 2000 SE rims.

I don't particularly care for the fuel economy of my Nissan. It certainly doesn't break any efficiency records, that’s for sure. I average about 19-21 mpg. That’s a nice mixture of highway/city driving and I'll admit I like to ride all 150 horses from time to time.
I have a manual, and get 28-33 mpg regardless of how I drive it. I'm currently driving mostly highway. I think this is pretty good, for a car with decent power. I have no experience with automatics.

The best part about my car - it's both dependable and reliable.
agreed.

Some things you're gonna strongly dislike: poor drink holder design (small and blocks radio controls - if you wanna visit the drive-thru don't supersize it and you might as well turn the radio off),
agreed. cup holders are off limits in my car, the lids spill directly into my cd player. This is a pretty common design flaw, though, unless you are looking at newer vehicles.

Add small glove compartment and non-fold down rear seats in my 96, and you've got my complaint list. All have been very minor inconveniences to me.

My bottom line: fun to drive compact 4-door with decent power and excellent reliability. small enough to feel sporty on back roads, large enough for 4 adults on longer trips. front wheel drive for winter weather. low resale value means used models are priced well below competition.

Pro: Good value for the money, power windows, locks, steering, brakes, OD, 150 HP engine in the GXE model. Limited inexpensive aftermarket stuff you can buy on ebay (spoilers, wai, knobs, mufflers, etc.) The only major part that I've replaced is the alternator for $260 including labor.

Cons: Useless glove compartment

The older G20 aren't as good looking as the later models

If I have a later G20 model, then I would keep it.

I was looking for a 1st gen G20 after our 93 Altima GXE 5sp (see mods in sig) was involved in a hit and run. We couldn't locate any 5sp G20s in good condition and near 100k. We bought a 97 Sentra GXE Auto, which sucked nut with the 1.6l. Sold that yesterday and bought a 95 Altima SE 5sp a week ago.

Pro: roomy. good power in the low range (my 93 Max SE 5sp won't pull till midrange). very fun to toss around (max is a slug. sentra was pretty good). lasts forever. we had 156k on the 93 and only major repair was starter at 105k and clutch at 140k. interior lasts forever (nothing rattles or falls apart)

Con: no respect. no mods. so so braking w/drums (the 95 se has disc/disc and abs...stops like a mofo).

If you don't like the g20, the altima's a good choice. check your ins though. 93 Altima to 97 sentra was $150. From 97 Sentra to 95 Altima was another $200. Ins said the sentra was newer than the 93 and the 95 is a higher class than the sentra. Weird, cuz the 97 kbb higher than the 95.

Keep the G20 and SR20DET it !!!!! It is a direct bolt in !!!! My brothers 93 G20 ran 13 flat in the quarter with just a BB SR20DET , 3" exhaust at 13 lbs boost .... There are way more performance parts for the SR20DE ... If you are looking for the cheepest way to go fast the G20 is the way to go ... But From driving them both , the Altima handles better , and seems to drive better ( more predictable ) .. Personaly I like the looks of the 1st gen , but the G20 looks good after the 99 fromt bumber is added and a nice set of wheels ... I will post picts of my brother car tonight !!!! They are both very nice modable cars ... And they both have the same T-chain and injector problems .... The G20 is more of a luxury car , but in my opinion my Altima looks juat as nice inside as the G20 .. ( becides the G20 having leather if thats what you lke , but you can get an Altima with leather !! )

I have a 5spd. and also have only run 14.6..... ( well untill Sun. !! )
