We are considering purchasing a used Altima. nissan front.jpg
It has 122K miles and appears to be in nice shape. But when we started the started the car and drove it, we noticed a thumping noise from the back. One of the 2 rear tires doesn't match -but other than that we have no idea what the noise could be (nothing was in the trunk).
Also we noticed the front grill was cracked and there are scratches. We are ok with the scratches, but wonder how easy it would be to replace the grill or get a grill cover to hide the damage at the bottom.

Front grille is under a few hundred to replace, if you do it yourself with a good used part.

I'd be more concerned about the thumping...good news is it isn't a drive system issue (more on that later), it's probably a bent rim and/or tire with issue. should plan on replacing at least one rim and possibly two tires back there. Budget that accordingly in your offer. Also factor in that the 'dealer/seller' didn't bother to fix the issue before selling...so what else didn't they 'fix'?

Lastly, this car has a Jatco CVT (transmission) with an above average failure rate...and 120Kmi is probably an average onset age for this problem. This is a $4000 repair and happens with no warning. The fact that you're looking at a car of this vintage/mileage, probably means that this is not for you.
