Hello,

I am new to the forum and have also recently arrived in Okinawa, Japan. I bought a 1996 Nissan Skyline and on the paperwork I got from the car agency, all it has is Skyline. Nothing else is on there to tell what kind of Skyline other than what is on the back trunk. I didn't get an owners manual with it and would like to somehow get some better info on this car. Unfortunately, since I just got here, I don't have a digital camera to take some pics to show everyone. Does anyone know how I can get more info about the car (I'm not really a car enthuiast as it is anyway) but I am very interested in learning more about it. I do love driving the car so far. Well, if anyone has any suggestion or help for me on this, I would appreciate it.

Maybe putting your VIN into Carfax? Your VIN has all the information you need to know right down to which plant your car was assembled in.

This may help:

EDIT: Hmmmm, doesnt look like they cover Skylines or even the RB motor in that guide.....

Good evening,

Thanks for the replies to my post. Looking for the VIN number, it isn't the standard VIN as are on cars in North America. This one is only 10 alpha-numeric characters. I couldn't find anything by the windshield or side of the door like you would be able to when you look on a car back in the US. Anyway, the only Nissan dealership that is around here that I could find is about 90-120 minutes from where I am located. I bought the car at a used car lot, like most people that come here, and the sales people there aren't quite helpfull once you buy the car from them. At least when it comes to specific info about it. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find anyone around here that know too much about these cars. Oh, also, I was wrong about GTR, it is a GTS 25 and it's also gold. I'll get some pics posted on here tomorrow sometime to see if that may jog anyone's knowledge. Again, thanks for the advice and help on this.

From what you have said it sounds like you have either a series 2 GTS (non-turbo) or more than likely a GTS-t (turbo). What colour are the GT badges on the left and right sides of the car? If they are blue then it’s a non-turbo and if they are red its turbo. Yep your right, if its got a 2.5 Litre engine its definitely not a GTR :)

Out of interest the cosmetic differences (some might help you make sure of what you have) between the series 1 and 2 R33 GTS-t/GTS include:

- The “Skyline” logo on the back of the car (between the rear indicator lights) is colour coded unlike the clear ones on the series 1 R33’s.
- The front headlights are slimmer on the series 2’s and because of this the bonnet is slightly different.
- Rear wing on the series 2’s are slightly bigger and squarer (like mine).
- In the series 2’s the interiors are slightly different; raised area of plastic surrounding the hazard light button and others, raised area of plastic over the light and instruments in the dash cluster, Steering wheel is smaller from the series 1’s, minor differences in style of material used on the seats etc.
- Front bar should have round fog and indicator lights (unless its been replaced of course).
- Passenger side airbag

Hope that helps. If you can get your hands on a camera post up some pics and I can tell you for sure what you have. :)
