good gas will help, but the stock turbo on an r33 gts-t will blow after .80 bar its happened to many people running the stock turbo running just .85 bar. If you run anything above .80 you're just asking to end the life of your turbo very quickly.

I think the primary cause of failure is not the turbo itself but the inability for the turbo to handle high EGTs due to the ceramic BB cartridge. Usually bumping up the boost results in the stock ECU (or one with a piggy back) substantially increase fuel trim or lean out which results in high EGTs. With high octane gas (especially leaded), and some careful tuning, higher boost pressures can be run without causing turbo failure, and I've seen it done - my old partner in Japan ran 1-1.25 on a regular basis with good gas. That said, yes, usually it's a bad idea to break 1 bar with the GTS unless you know what you're doing.

Thanks :)

If you need anything special order from Japan just let me know - I can order it for you. The exchange rate is great right now, and I've ordered tons of skyline stuff from Japan for my buddies and myself (I kept blowing up my motor haha).

Cheers,

Gary

I have a 93 Skyline R33 GTS-T and I run 1.5 Bars off the Stock Turbo. I've been doing it for a little while now with no problems with the turbo. The only problem was that the EGT was getting too hot and my ECU was pulling fuel. It was fixed with a FM Intercooler and Boost Cooler. Now I run 1.5 bars with no problem, with an ocassional 1.6-1.8 spike.

I personally drove my 1995 GTS25t at 1.5 bar from June of 2006 until I upgraded to a T04e last summer... When I took the stock turbo off it was still in great condition... So I gave it to a friend that was trying to turbo a RB20 and it worked great for him!

As soon as I upgraded the turbo I did the head gasket (1.2mm Metal GReddy) and timing belt (GReddy) and I have had no problems! Still running at 1.5 bar!
