Okay all edrama aside. I'm considering buying a radar detector since I find myself driving like an idiot in the Max lately. Cops have been steeping up their beats as well in my area. Can anyone steer me towards a good qaulity one? Money is not a problem by the way. Willing to spend whatever. My uncle told me about this one that you can actually hook up to your pc and DL the latest upgrades....any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Regardless of what you buy, nothing is going to protect you 100%. Self control and slowing down and obeying the law is the best you can hope for. Aside from that V-1 is suppose to be one of the best you can buy.

The V-1 is unquestionably the best. It also has the arrows which tell you from what direction the signal is coming. I have a friend that got countless tickets his first two years of driving... he hasn't gotten one since getting the V-1.

Like has been said in the thread already, it won't protect you 100%. But it will cover your ass most of the time, and better than any other detector out there.

meh, i still find that arguable. my escort solo2 is just as good, if not better. it doesn't have the arrows, but it's wireless. i have never gotten a ticket while using it, even after being tagged by lidar.

I don't know if yours is a newer model, but about a year back, a bunch of my friends and I were driving caravan-style to Michigan... about 10 cars. 4 of us had radar detectors. Two had Escorts, one had the V-1, and one had a cheap Radio Shack one.

We passed two state troopers next to each other, facing opposite diretions, in the median, on the other side of a hill. The car with the V-1 slammed on his brakes first, before even starting to go up the hill. The guys with Escorts slowed down while going up the hill... still with plenty of time left, but not nearly as early as the V-1. The other 7 cars (including us) saw the three car slowing down and followed suit. Later the Radio Shack guy said he just slowed down because we were all slowing down. His detector finally went off right as he was going over the top of the hill. Had he been alone, only if his reflexes would have been superfast, he would have narrowly escaped a ticket.

But now the f*ckers on Lake Shore Drive just hide there without turning on their radars, then when they see a car going fast, the use that Instant-On radar shit. The radar detects it obviously, but it's too late... :angry4:

V1 can only be bought at their website.

Rev, mine is a newer model. it's been benchmarked against the V1 and in many cases can detect bands further away than the v1 can.

Where is the best place to purchase the V1 and please don't say ebay.
Cheapest = eBay. Best = I don't know. I always buy stuff like this on eBay.

Oh, I'm sorry... I forgot you didn't want me to say eBay. I completely forgot not to say eBay. I'll stop saying eBay now.

Phil, is the escort battery powered? If so, how long does it last?
I probably use it on average an hour a day, seven days a week. I set it to auto power on and off when the car moves it turns off after it's sat idle for 20 minutes it turns off. I probably change the batteries once a month. I just bought some good rechargable batteries and keep some charged in the house at all times. You can also purchase a cord. But being in Virginia where they are illegal it's nice to be cordless as I can hide it up above my rear view mirror and just rip it down and toss it really quickly if i were to get pulled over.
