I working on my next mod of upgrading my side mirrors to turnsignals and what I need to figure out is how to remove the outside cover on the new mirror for painting ,its comes unpainted black.
I have googled ,u tubed and searched on here with no luck

This is what I purchased

See if these links help...looks like you have to pop the glass mirror out of the housing first to access the tabs/pawls that hold the outer cover or "rear finisher" on.

Ok execlent info there thanks, that will also give me wiring code to tap into in the drivers footwell/running board for turn signals.
I ordered paint from touch up direct was a bit pricy , wont be as good as factory but will half to do ,its a 3 step process.

Hopefully I dont break the mirror durring disable

The 09-12 popped off with a panel removal tool. In retrospect, taking the glass out first might have been the better option.

For me, removing the mirror involved reading the FSM a lot and hoping that what I was prying was correct. Very hard to see in there and the mirror doesn't really want to release.

i've always used a pocket flatblade screwdriver with tape on it to get the skullcaps off the mirror assembly, never had any problems
