It is really wierd sometimes the noise isnt there and then sometimes it is but when the noise is there it happens at exactly 1700 rpms and nothing else. Now im pretty sure nissan ****ed this up since it started after they worked on my car. But o well anyone have any idea what this noise could be it is sort of like a rattling noise again only at 1700 rpms. Yes I asked nissan about the noise and they said they have no clue.

If it's a rattle it's the heat sheild around the cat for sure! The same thing happened to me when I got mine back from Nissan. Another time it was the backing plate on the rotor! They can never do something without fuc**ng something else up! Just crawl under there with some pliers and bend or cut it off. Good luck

lol I already removed both of the heat shields, where the hell is this rotor thing at? I need that noise to go away it bothers the hell out of me.
Well, that "rotor thing" is what the caliper squeezes on when you push the brake pedal to stop your car. LOL Unless you have a death wish, I wouldnt remove it.

It may be your timing chain slightly bumping the timing chain cover. I've heard that to be the culprit for what you're describing. I think a lot of members have had the same problem. I seem to have it too but I only notice it at idle. I understand you can remove the cover if it gets too annoying, the part is not necessary.

Rattling?

Is it like a marble in a can, or is it a metalic rattling?

Have you checked the motor mounts? Try and rock the motor, see how far you can move it.

Have you stood in front of the car with the hood open and revved the engine or had someone sit in the driver's seat and hold it 1700?

Does the sound appear in nuetral and in gear? You took the heat shiled off the manifold as well?

It is a metallic rattling and yes seems to come from all sorts of different places when in front of the car, nissan says i have 2 broken/dying motor mounts could they be making the noise?

That would be more of a vibration or a knock, not really a noise like a marble in a can or metal-to-metal type grinding.

DAMN DAMN DAMN nope not an exhaust leak but since I was going to put nitrous in the weekend I think ill do the front and back motor mounts (place racing flavor). So I can see the front one but where the hell is the other? How long should it take me to replace both?
