Are the dealers still doing this?

To my understanding the timing advance only benifits only if you are going to run a high octane gas...say 91 and above. Our cumputers on our cars retard the timing if it senses knock in order not to tear up our engine. But if you run a higher octane gas it reduces the risk of detonation(knock) so advancing your timing would be a good thing. This is just my $.2

^Thats what my dlrship stated that its a combined law with Nissan and govt. regulations and changing it would conflict that. They wouldn't even touch my car for timing advance and I went to 2 dlrships.

I took it to an auto shop too and they said they would charge me $50 just to check and see if its possible and if they might be able to do it. But after I read some posts here, I just scraped the whole idea.
