Transmission Leak! F**k Me!

So I had a minor transmission leak on the driver's side and had a mechanic replace some gasket. Once I got home I put a cardboard under the car just to see if there is anymore leaks, and guess what... the next morning there was a freakin' puddle of transmission fluid. I went back and he said that the dealer gave him an opposite side gasket and that it should be all good now. But guess what... you guessed it.. it's leaking again. What the hell could be wrong? Is this something major?

It will be if you don't keep an eye on that fluid level (it seems you're doing that though).... Just get the mechanic to do the job right.

I just went through this. Dealer replaced the drivers side seal. Then the passenger side seal started leaking, so they replaced that. Then the driver side started leaking again, so they replaced that again.

Later, I thought it was leaking again, but it was just left over fluid that had leaked before. It flows better when the engine gets warm. Do yourself a favor and try to clean up as much of that stuff off the transmission as possible so that you can really tell if it is leaking, or if it's just left over leaked fluid. They put my car up on the lift again and barely cracked the fill plug and fluid started very slowly raining out, so it was definitely full. Some of the left over fluid was just making its way down the transmission.

Keep an eye on it every 2 or 3 days, and keep bringing it back in until it doesn't leak anymore. Good Luck!

Thanks for the reply guys... I mean I can tell that's it's leaking cause I have a pretty good puddle, and I mean puddle of trans fluid under the vehicle. The thing that worries me the most is that I don't want it to be the bearing problem that some of the Maximas are experiencing ( read some previous threads), and have a scary feeling that it's going to cost me more. BTW it's a 95 GXE with about 100K on it. Standard Trans. Lataz

i just went through a lot of crap with this and still not done


drivers side transaxle seal was leaking. replaced a good number of times and still leaked. then the postion sensor leaked. it turns out it was the differential that went bad and the uneven rotation of the axle ate up the housing too. it would have been just as much to fix it than to get a used tranny. so i got one, now the seal where the linkage goes in is leakin. so that should be fixed and that hsould be it.

also, much clutch got screwed though all that and got a new one with a resurfaced flywheel and now i have a chatter every now and then. but oh well, its chilin out.

weird you mention this after something similar happened to me.

Transmission torque converter seal

I had dismantled the transmission from the motor To replace the seal after three weeks it started leaking again from the same spot Help can anyone help me with this Please leave comments need help I don't know what to do now PLEASE ANYONE I replace both right and left CV axle seals it's leaking right where that little window is to see the torque converter
