I've noticed that my wife's '97 GXE trunk has had water in the spare tire area. I can't figure out where the water is coming from! The rubber weather stripping around the trunk opening looks fine. Has anyone else ever had this problem? The car is stock and has no modifications to the trunk area. Thanks for your help.

Believe it or not, it may be the weather stripping. I had the same problem in my old '88 Camry. For the life of me I couldn't find where the water was coming from, until I tried this...

Tape up newspapers all around your trunk. So when the paper gets soaked with water, you'll know where the water is coming from.

Hmmm - the only frequent cause I've seen on here is aftermarket clear tailights not sealed properly. Which obviously isn't the case here. I suppose it could be a leak around your factory tails, though.

mine leaks also and I still have the stock tails on.

I had the same problem with my 96 Alty GXE. The is probably coming from the tail lights seals.

Buy black silicone and reseal the lights.
