WHERE Are You Supposed To Hook Them Cargo Nets???

2716 Views 30 Replies 16 Participants Last post by  DryHeat
Picked up a 3.5 auto in December. LOVE the car 'cept those cargo nets -- especially the big one. Just exactly WHERE is it supposed to go? There are hooks and "D" rings in at least a half-dozen spots all around the trunk, but none of them are satisfactory -- I want the net to stretch across the rearmost part of the trunk (just in front of the bumper) and hang straight down like a wide flat bag, so I can put small normally-rolling-around things in there. What do you guys do?

Big one goes way up front at the rear of the wheelwells. Little one goes on the left side.

The only way to hang the net across the back is to either purchase a new clip and replace the upper right side one that came from the factory or swap it with another. Having the net on the trunk floor is in my opinion, totally useless
Hey Altimat and pcsgrp,

Thanks for the replies -- guess it's official then, I'm tossin'em!

I am using mine all the time to put things that roll around. I also find that on the left side, that small space with the net is great for holding a roll of paper towels and my small tool kit. Changing the hook on the right side is all of a 1 minute job. I ordered the $2.50 part so I have total flexibility with the net.

Use em for fishin'
I also ordered the extra little clip piece. I think it only cost me $1.30 though... but I might be mistaken.

I don't know why they didn't just put that last ring in the trunk!

Oh... Also, my salesman gave me an extra small net so that I would have one on either side.
I love 'em

Personally, I love the cargo nets, but I wish I to received and extra small one from my dealer. :p I have the large net laying flat across the floor and it is perfect for keeping things from rolling around on those QUICK trips from the grocery store. :D
does your cargo net have hooks on all four corners???

mine only has it on two and the other two corners are just loops. I know I can hook them to the two hooks in the middle part of the trunk , but it would be nice to have the option of hooking the net straight across the back of the trunk, but with no hooks on the bottom two corners, it would be kinda loose.

and what is the deal with one less clip piece? can someone tell me where you got your extra one from. thanks

I got mine from the parts department at the dealer I bought my car at. I told the parts counter guy to walk out into the parking lot to actually look at the piece I wanted so that there wouldn't be a mistake.

He ordered and it took two days to get. It is a 5 second swap after you get the little ring thingie.

Mine also was missing one ring on the passenger side upper closest to the trunk opening. There was clearly a place for a ring there, but only a plastic plug covering the hole. I complained to my salesman and he just stole a ring off another altima to put in mine. Then he ordered two more, since the other altima was now missing two.

In my theory, Nissan under-ordered rings. Rather than make some altimas with no rings, they just shorted many the one. Trust me, your altima SHOULD HAVE a ring there, and your shouldn't have to pay for one. Now if you want to replace some rings with hooks, your should pay for the extra hooks.

LOL....Mine only had three hooks? Can't figure out where the fourth one went? O well...? I use one of the hooks from the smaller net to hold itself and the missing hook loop on the large net. Works for now.

I don't think any of the altimas are being built with four rings on the passenger side. I think that is so that you don't wonder where your other net went.

If someone purchased a car with 4 rings on the passenger side without having to swipe or order another one, pipe up!
Well Then, How Do You...

...remove the hook-type plugs and relpace them with ring-types? The ring ones just pop out but the hook ones are in there solid, did not feel like forcing anything. Anybody actually remove a hook one?
Nets

I have never seen a set up so stupid, u need directions to put that damn thing in there. I gave up, fugit!
Check out page 2-30 of the owner's manual. It shows 4 different configurations.

I am aware of that in the manual, mine is so tight, i fear it may pull the damn things out of the side of the car. That is one dumb fu#*in net.

In my manual the cargo net info is on page 2-29. What I don't think some people realize is that the large net is a bag which you can put loose items into. I generally keep mine configure, as in the first image on page 2-29, to partition the front from the back of the trunk. The small net obviously is just for the side pockets. Suits me fine.

Cargo Net, Trunk

Sorry guys, can't sympathize with your dilemma!
I spend my time under the hood not the trunk. :D
Does any one know the part number of the "D" clip that the cardo nets hook onto?
