hey guys, i am gettin a whining noise from my front end while i am driving periodically. my friend had a 97 maxima and it was coming from his car and he had to replace the rotors/calipers. but as i was talkin to him the other day, he said that he didnt need to replace, that the caliper was sticking to the rotor. and just needed to be spaced or something like that. when i brake the whining noise goes down. any help on where to go is appreciated.

I had a problem like this. It was the driver's rear caliper sticking. It would only happen once and a while though.. much like you describe.

Here's how to check.. not very quickly.

Jack up one wheel at a time until it can spin freely.

Get someone to depress the brakes on and off while you spin it. See if the wheel sticks. If so, the caliper needs service/replacement.

That's how I found out one of my calipers were junk. Good ol' Used Car Sale warranty covered it.

I noticed if I turned on direction (left for me) that it would go away...
