Already read those thanks. They don't really answer my question with 100% solid results/info though.

 

I run 10W40 Mobil Clean 5000 during the winter without any trouble.

 

Hmm, I run 10-40 all the time without any problem. Seems to slow the burn.

 

10k intervals are pretty steep, why did you wait so long? did you do an oil analysis?

10w40 should be fine, just make sure you let your car run 1-2 minutes before driving it in the winter (30-60 seconds in the summer).

 

10k is a bit much...I agree. I do every 5k and with my driving, that breaks down to once every 6-7 weeks. Synthetic 5-30...year round.

 

I'm with jim. Should be fine as long as you let the car warm up a little longer and up to operating temp before doing any hard driving (I'm sure you probably do that anyway).

 

amsoil allows for up to 25k between changes depending on conditions. I also do 10-15k changes. It's why you pay the extra cash, for better oil.

 

have you done an oil analysis?

Alright, guess I'll stick to the 10w40 and continue the warm up time and take it easy on it till it's warmed up.

 

:wall: I start 'er up, wait about 30 seconds and then drive. I rarely have any time to wait 2-3 minutes for the car to warm the oil up. In those 30 seconds I check my e-mail on my phone and then I'm off to work. The car only needs so much time to build up oil pressure. It doesn't take that long.

 

I do the same, I just take it easy the first few miles. (Then all bets are off).

 

no oil analysis yet. I guess I could do it on my next change though.

 

amsoil isn't a 25k mile oil nor do they come close to claiming that (not that i've ever seen). the only way to know how many miles you can stretch your oil changes is to have the analysis done (otherwise you're just guessing).

 

Amsoil oil does and can run up to 25k or more, the SSO oil in particular, but I don't run that long.

 

ok, after doing more research, you're right, the SSO does claim a high mileage change interval, but thats under a limited set of circumstances. still, i would follow closer to the owner manual's recommendation and if i were looking to go more than 8k miles (regardless of the oil), i would do an oil analysis.

 

forget the oil...do you trust the filter?

 

the purolator pure one, is one of the best filters on the market.

 

if you look at comparisons that people have made when cutting open filters you can tell which filter will work best (through common sense). people have measured how many square inches of filter material various brands use and pureolator is always one of the best. an oil filter with 50% more filter material will not only take longer to clog but it will allow a higher flow rate.

^ if you look in that link, the pure one and bosch have the same amount of filter material which is also the largest amount of all the filters tested. the pure one and bosch had nearly twice the amount of filter material than the fram models and about 30% more filter material than the napa gold and mobil1.

 

WIX > All others IMO.

 

another thing i just saw, nissan uses the same filter for the 2002-2011 3.5 and 2007-2011 2.5. only the 2002-2006 2.5 uses a different filter.
