dam i just got a quote for 94 se 1400.00/ 6 months from geico and some other campany wanted 4000.00/year new york is crazy
Jeez! Before my Expedition got stolen, I was paying $1680/6 months for our 01 Civic LX, 03 Altima 2.5S, and 04 Expedition XLT 4X4... This is with full coverage and $500 Collision and $250 Comprehensive deductibles. It has since dropped to $1020/6 months since I don't have to pay for the Expedition anymore (it was never recovered :( )... And this is after they cut me my check for my stolen truck! Got to love Allstate! :)

I pay about $1400/year total for insurance on my 02 2.5S, 00 Celica GT and homeowners. I use Liberty Mutual and have full coverage on everything with increased liability coverage on all three policies.

My rates have gone down every year on the Altima...I was shocked by how quickly the cost of insuring this thing plunged, but I'm not complaining. Just renewed so my rates are locked now until March 2005...guess I'll see then if they are going to increase it.

I got off the phone with State Farm 10mins ago and they didn't tell me anything more than we all already knew. The rating for that class of cars has increased due to the increased number of claims:angry4:

I'm start getting quotes and hopefully i'll get the same rate i was getting before if not less :angel1:

I've got great insurance on my wife and me w/ 3 vehicles through Liberty Mutual. Give them a call (or visit their website).

BTW, I just recently got my renewal and my premium went down for the year (they offer 1 yr instead of 6 month policies). I would suggest a year policy, that way you can't get stuck with an increase for at least 12 months.

Mine went down this year but most cars are going up to account for the increased cost involved in accidents. Look at Tweekers car, it didn't look like it had much damage but it was declared a total. (at least the pictures didn't look that bad) Like everything else prices are always going up. The cost to insure my house went up more than my car insurance, neither have had any claims against them.

I like everyone else wasn't looking forward to the insurance bill due at the end of next month, but at least i knew what i was going to be paying UNTIL I opened the letter and suprise suprise it was like $120 more than it ever was since i bought the car in 2001!!!

I started thinking that there must have been a mistake...etc until i read the following:

"The Claim experience on your make and model of vehicle has resulted in an increase to your vehicle rating group for comprehensive and/or collision coverages".

"Your vehicle safety discount has been reduced for your medical payments coverage".

then on the back it went on to explain that State farm reviews the medical payments and personal injury protection coverages claims every year resulting in either an increase or decrease :angry4:

I dont know about anybody else, but that doesn't sound good:confused:
They did this to my Camaro SS as well. The hike was like an extra $400 every six months bc it is considered a performance/sports car, so they are now classifying sports car with large engines in a new catagory and making us pay out the ass for it now. Totally sucks! I hope this doesn't happen when I renew the alitma in July.

Greetings to the Group, a new member here.....

Here in Jersey (Insurance Rip-Off Capital of the East), I have Allstate (after having State Farm for-EVER), I switched after SF said they were pulling out of NJ and SAVED $900+/year....My ins went up only $65/6 months after changing from a Ford ZX2 to my nice shiny new Pewter '04 2.5S. We're paying $840/6 mths for the Altima AND a 95 Dodge Dakota with full coverage.

Looking forward to a lot of info in these forums,

My alti gets the anti-lock brake & airbag discount but there are no day time running lights. Any kits round for that? If so, what lights would be used.

Been with the farm since dec 81', never had a chargable accident and violation free since 72'. Location is Long Island and I pay $120 per month w/$500 ded, full coverage.

What many don't realize is they sweep us by location. Wild Bill gets treated kindly in central PA while my triple decade virgin record gets scorned (it's up about $30 since I got the car) on this 20 x 100 mile island with 5 million people.

They also have access to our records which means they can throw risk into the mix. Even if you've got no benders, your points mean risk. Risk means $.

My record's been clean since '84, and not too many before that, and even no benders, EVER.....got just about every discount Allstate offers, multi-car, clean record, good credit rating, partridge in a pear tree..... :p

Put a piece of tape over the auto lamp sensor and your lights will always be on. Not sure if it would pass muster for a DRL system for the discount though.

Our rates in MA are regulated by the state. The state decides the risk class for each vehicle, different steps of discount percentages for good driving or tickets, multi-car policy discounts, etc. The only competition the companies can really have is their different discount pools...I go with Libery Mutual because I get a multi-car discount, another dicount for having my homeowner's with them and then an 8% discount off the total because I'm a graduate of UMASS.

Its funny seeing all you guys talking about costs per 6 months, in MA (as far as I know) there is no such thing. You sign up for a one year policy...its kind of nice because my rates can only go up once a year, not twice...the down side is they can only go down once a year too. I remember one time when I was a kid that they issued a retroactive rate increase...the insurance companies managed to push through some legislation that allowed them to jack up everyone's rates for the previous two years coverage...apparently all of the insurance companies in the state would have gone out of business if they didn't do it (sarcasm).

I pay $1080 for 6 months here in NY. I am a driver under 25 so my rates are higher than most of you guys. Once I turn 25 in June, I should have significantly cheaper rates. Does anybody know how much my rates will be reduced?

i paid less than $800 per 6 months with both my wife and I on the insurance. btw it's mercury

some tips to get your rate lower:
Good Driver - doh!
Good Student? 3.0 above? depends
Bachelors Degree in Engineering, etc

I'm not sure about the U.S., but up here in Can-aduh we can get discounts for being part of a larger group.

For example if you are an alumni from a certain college/university, you can get a group discount depending on how many other alumni have signed up for a specific group policy. For some others it's being part of a professional association (like a professional engineer etc...)

You who may be part of a larger group may want to investigate if you haven't already done so.
