Intelligent Key Battery Life

After replacing the battery in my intelligent key fob, it seems to always need replacing. I replaced the battery with a battery purchased at a store such as Walmart. It is a Duracell, nothing special. The battery in my fob is only "months" old and the car is already telling me the battery life is low. Is there a special type of battery needed?

I've been driving at least 7 months with that low battery indicator on. I think, like a lot of things on this car, the warnings are a little premature. Just keep driving with it and drain out the key battery...worst case is, you pop the actual key out and open the door/start the car that way.

xeene, that kit is damn awesome...any details on that?

Yeah my battery indicator is coming on as well when I start the car and all I am doing is ignoring it until it's completely dead then I'll use the spare key until that battery is completely dead then replace both batteries at the same time.

I have been driving about 9 months now with the "low battery" indicator popping up every time I start the car. I carry a new battery in the car and I am waiting for it to stop working before I replace it.
Next time I will wait about 9 months before I purchase the new battery.

you guys have the low battery indicator...im wondering though, how is he lock/unlock distance with the fob? logically, i think the operating distance would shrink marginally with the battery low...am i correct?

Mine just started like 2 weeks ago maybe 3 at most and I can still lock and unlock the car a good 225 - 250 feet or more. (in Jersey a good guide of measurement is telephone poles they are about 100 feet apart.)

Had mine replaced with the Fob during the 07 Recall. Asked if I could have the fob as extras but they wouldn't go for it, so they gave me the batteries. Last winter, I started geting the low battery warning and as the temperature warmed up in the spring, it went away. It must have been something with the car itself because that's what was cold, not the battery. the fob never left my inner jacket pocket. It's something I intend to address next winter (because It doesn't appear now).

In short, it may not be the batteries but it may be a problem with the sensor in the car that should be addressed.

Battery probably isn't covered under warranty and might be pro-rated if it is (if they even do that for the CR2032's).
