Need battery advice

I need a new battery for my 05 SE-R. I think the stock battery has a cold cranking amp rating of 550. The dealer wants $80 for the same battery with a 18 month free replacement (no prorate after that), and Auto Zone has one for the same price with a 3 yr. free replacement (8 yr prorate). the Auto Zone one has 950 cold cranking amps.
My nieghbor suggests staying with the Nissan battery because putting in something with a higher cranking amp. could damage the starter.

Anyone heard of this before?

is that what you have?

i was really looking into getting the Optima battery, because it doesnt use conventional acid thats in a regular battery.

but my question is, is it worth the 150$ price tag instead of a regular well branded 80$ battery?

the only improvement with the Optima is faster starts i would assume? any other noticeable improvements?

The quicker it starts, the less wear on the starter...If you have a weak battery that is crankin slow, and crankin and crankin..as opposed to one the cranks..and.....BOOM...

What makes more sense?

I'd say if you want a run of the mill battery, the autozone wont due any harm. The higher the CCA's the better the start and better performance.

In the end the Optima is always one of the best choices to go with, if your just looking for a good starting battery or one that'll help you out with all those accessories and sound systems theres nothing else that comapres. I have a red top in the Altima that I had in my old nissan pathfinder. I'm running two Amps (700watt amp, 1000watt amp and 3 subs) I have no dimming at all. I also left the radio on while detailing my car for 4 hours. Lost all of the charge, I let the car sit off for 10 mins and the redtop regained enough energry to let the car start again.

No crappy acid crystals on battery posts, connections, and spill proof with an Optima. Sears also has a new one called Platinum which is supposed to be similar to the Optima.

Nissan original lasted under 3 years for me with monthly maintenance involved. Sears Die Hard on my other cars averaged 4 years w/an eye out for cleanliness.

U wil get what U pay for!

The battery in 05 died this summer. Not completely, but wouldn't constitantly hold a charge and had trouble starting the car after sitting overnight. I replaced it with an autozone battery. It is the middle grade choice, I think 650 amps. It is the red top one. It fit perfect and has performed flawlessly. I think it was reasonable, ~$50 and covered for 3 years. I don't plan to run anything non stock, so I wasn't looking for the top battery. If I was gonna turn the car in in January, I'd shop by price, not performace.

I got a Braille No-Weight carbon fiber battery...it weighs only 15 lbs. and is a dry cell battery that you could mount anywhere in your car (upside down, sideways, doesn't matter) and it lightened up my front end (made the wheel gap another finger higher)...make sure you get the carbon fiber one since it will have no problems starting in the cold (im in jersey where I started my car at 29 degrees no problem). it is pricey though...with the bracket it came out to almost 300

If you cant find the Optima with the reversed posts, you can get an Exide Orbital battery from Kragen or Autozone. It is the same technology as the Optima (sealed/AGM/spira-cell), has the same if not more CCA (tested at over 1000), and can be had for about the same price. I have one in my 03. It has the posts down the middle./center of the battery so there is no fitment issue whatsoever.

These are the two that were recommended for the Altima on the Optima website:
35 (9020-164) RedTop Battery Group 35; Cold Crank Amps 720; Crank Amps 910; Reserve Capacity 90; Ampere Hour 44; Top Terminal; L-9 5/16 in.; W-6 13/16 in.; H-7 5/8 in.; BOXED;

D35 (9040-218) YellowTop Deep Cycle Battery Grp. D35; Cold Crank Amps 650; Crank Amps 810; Reserve Capacity 98; Amp Hour 48; Top Terminal; L-9 5/16 in.; W-6 13/16 in.; H-7 5/8 in.;

If they are wrong, let me know 'cause I also plan on changing the battery on my SE-R soon.

Those are the correct ones, I work at Advance Auto Parts and have sold and installed both those batteries before. Sure bet they'll fit fine.

You can also use a Optima RedTop 75/35-925 like I have in my car, only thing is that the negative cable is pulled a little taught in order to go on the negative post.

I really cant comment on if the Exide Orbital is better than Optimas, only that they are a comparable alternate to the, at times, hard to find optima redtop. They are direct competitors.

I have had the Exide Orbital for 6 months roughly and my brother has had an Optima Red for about 4 months. Both cars start noticeably faster with the new batteries, the replacement warranties are equal across the board really, but its def too early to determine which will last longer down the road. Most discussions and information I have gathered put the two on equal ground in all areas, so its pretty much a brand preference- or for me: availability.

I will see if my brother had his battery tested, I believe Reds are rated at ~900CA, my Exide says its rated at something like 890ca but was tested at over 1100CA which is impressive to me.
