Hey everyone:

So I pulled the kick plate and opened the little panel on the side to access the Cabin Air Filter, BUT my fingers are too fat to grasp the filter out. I did NOT remove the glove compartment.

Anyone have tips for that? I wish there was a pull tab for it.

My initial response of when I first saw the Cabin Air Filter I was like....WOW THAT SH*TS HUGE LOL

2011 Nissan Altima 2.5S BTW. Replacing with a WIX :D

To be honest. A lot of frustration. The hardest part was reassembling it. I couldn't disconnect the light so I left it, Pain in the kdjfksljdfskldj to put the damn filter inside. Tried squeezing it...couldnt even slide it in. I ended up just stuffing it inside...but found out that I had to pop the top and bottom of the filter in.

Oh...heres the funny part. When I took out the glove compartment...the door unaligned -___-. So I was freaking out trying to put back together while it was apart. The left hinge popped out.

While putting the screws back in, that was a pain as well. The screws did not screw in perfect. I had to force it in there.

What I ended up doing with the original Nissan Filter was that I just pulled it out. I caught a little bit of it and pulled put down and tugged really hard. Spilled a lot of the stuff out. Vacuumed my car.

when you first need to get access to it, it's a PIA. I took out my glove box too but now that I know what's involved, I'll just reach in there the next time. I got so frustrated too that I left that sliding cover off, but made sure that the filter doesn't slide or pop out.

I get claustrophobic easily so I tried the upside down ninja move and almost passed out!! :D

I wish you could switch it out like the procedure replacing the cabin air filter on the prius...no removal of the glove box or any tools...just slips out!

well now that I know what's involved, it would only take me 10-15 minutes to do, but in the beginning it took long since the pictures that I've seen weren't too helpful when I was actually doing it! :D

I like how the cabin air filter is located on my dad's prius...right above the glovebox and it doesn't require any unscrewing to get to...wish the altima's cabin air filter was like that.

But once you've done it and know how little space there is, it's easy the next few times

I just had my oil changed and after thought about it. They said at 16k I should not need it. I dont plan on checking it at the moment. I had them replace the air filter as the price wasnt too bad and rotate the tires. I also need some new wiper blades. Man these things can get expensive. I went with a rain ex on the driver and for the passenger they offer anything but anco for passenger. The rear window they said 14" which is correct but didnt fit.

I've solved the installation problem ... it's easy now!

Yesterday evening I solved the installation problem for the Altima. Not only is it very easy for me, I get to laugh aloud in the process.

How is this done you ask?

Easy ....

Challenge your 13 year-old son to stand on HIS head (702's Ninja move) and install the filter. Convince him you think he's not up to the challenge ... then sit back and have a great time!

Cabin Air Filter $15.99
Installation Fee $ 0.00
Vision stuck in head PRICELESS!

Total install time, 22 minutes (including 4 minutes for son to recover from choking on his own spit, while upside down, while trying not to look too "uncool". That will teach him to laugh at my stale jokes while inverted!

15.99? OEM Filter?

I got a 10.99 WIX.

Well...I don't have children and never will! LOL

I was a bit surprised at the price when I bought it, but the cost was the same at both O'Reilly's and AutoZone, so I didn't bother looking around any more than that. Usually I buy these type of items from Amazon.com, but needed some antifreeze and other items that are too expensive to ship. So I picked up the filters while in the store.

This is still a ton cheaper to do it yourself. The Jiffy Lube I use (because a LOF is only $19.99, you can hardly buy the materials yourself for that) wants $35 to do a CAF and the dealership quoted me more like $79. I won't pay someone to do something I can do myself ... unless the price is near the cost of materials, such as an oil change.

I know what you mean. Where I live, the price of buying 5.1 Quarts of oil costs already 19.99 (on sale) for conventional, and then adding a filter for 6.99, is already more than doing it at my dealership for 16.88. 80 bucks to do a cabin air filter is insane.
