Weird RPM problem..

Okay. I have this strange problem with my idle RPM sticking at 1k after pressing in the clutch? It usually happens when I'm in second gear and I press in the clutch to slow down. If I hold the clutch the car will start idling at 1k RPMs? If you release the clutch it'll stick until you give it a quick rev and then it will go back to normal. Any one else have this really odd problem? Now if I'm not moving and just press in the clutch, nothing happens. Only when I press the clutch from a gear. I highly doubt it's the clutch sticking or not disengaging completely because there are no driveability issues associated with this. Just trying to see if I might have to do the idle air relearn again or something.

Same problem here Gene. When I hold the clutch in, the RPMs just sit there around 1k for quite some time. It happened after I got a fuel induction cleaning - bad move. I thought I read in a thread where you thought it might have been a bad throttle body, but I take it that hasn't solved your problem yet?

If I shift and hold the clutch the RPM needle sticks for a while. I think I will get a video of this.

Try the idle relearn, and try the Accelerator Pedal Released Position Learning :

Accelerator Pedal Released Position Learning is an operation to learn the fully released position of the accelerator pedal by monitoring the accelerator pedal position sensor output signal. It must be performed each time harness connector of accelerator pedal position sensor or ECM is disconnected.

OPERATION PROCEDURE
1. Make sure that accelerator pedal is fully released.
2. Turn ignition switch ON and wait at least 2 seconds.
3. Turn ignition switch OFF and wait at least 10 seconds.
4. Turn ignition switch ON and wait at least 2 seconds
5. Turn ignition switch OFF and wait at least 10 seconds.

This may or may not help, but its free and worth a try.

YES! Forgot about this! :) Thanks man! This problem actually popped up right after I re-installed my stock ECM. So it could be this.

Nope. Tried it last night, this morning and on the way home from work. Nothing. I know I'm getting my timing right since I use a stop watch.

Oh well. Just something I have to live with.

Yup, not the throttle body. This current throttle body is less then 2k miles old any way, so I highly doubt it would go out so quickly.

The throttle bodies are all the same, 02-06.

I really can't figure out why the RPMs would stick. It's so strange. Now it's started doing something even weirder. It'll go down to idle and if it stayed there it would be cool but then it BOUNCES back up to 1k and sticks there for a good 4-5 seconds before settling down slowly.

I really think this is pretty much normal. All the newer cars with manuals do this to varying degrees. It's part of the solution to emissions. It keeps the throttle partially open for a few seconds so it doesn't slam shut abruptly and cause a lean condition.

Trust its not normal. I'm having the same problem too, the RPMs are seriously hanging a bit too long, this isn't the normal RPM increase you get between changes.

In between changing gears, if the car is moving and I clutch in, I can let it sit there for 10 seconds <- this is clearly not normal (need to get video of this) and once the car slows down it will start dropping. At least thats what it does for me, Gene's situation may be different.

PS - This is for Leathe (Gene): Does your car exhibit starting problems, or does it turn over immediately?

Not really any starting problems. I have noticed with the warmer weather it takes at least 2-3 turns before it starts right up. In the colder months it seems to start up a second after I turn the key.

And my situation is the same as Kev's. Release the clutch at any speed and it'll stick at 1k RPMs. Then when you release the clutch and start slowing down it will then start to drop. I've also noticed when the car is cold the throttle will stick a little longer then usual and when you release the clutch to get into the next gear it'll "lurch." I never had this problem with the TSECU. Weird.

Another problem is my idle is a little higher now. Instead of 550-600 it's now at 750-800 RPMs. Which is just weird but still in the acceptable range.
