Too bad the Altima depreciates faster than the Accord. Isn't that sad?
Yeah, it is. However, if you plan on keeping it for 8+ years, it won't matter. At least if you lease, it'll lower your residual value (however, your monthly payments will be higher). Maybe when the lease is up, if the resale value is more than the buyout, you could buy it and sell it at a profit. If not, trade up to a 2011 Altima - a Gen 5!

get the 3.5, it is much faster than most v6's out their and i have the 2.5 which is not bad but is governed at 110mph because of the tires,
any way 2.5 for mpg or the 3.5 for speed. and if you have enough money, i would wait for the new 2008 infiniti G37, it has 330hp and has magnesium paddle shifters, and it has the same push start mechanism, it's basically a RWD altima on steroids

You're kidding right? How can you barely find out about it if there is a sticker on the gas lid that says to use premium fuel only.
I drove for about 4 years before I ever saw the gas cap on my car. All gas stations in NJ are full service - by law. In Jersey, it's illegal to pump your own gas.

I have the 2.5 with the CVT and it is very peppy. I can smoke my wifes 06 Pilot with a 3.5 250HP V6 with my 2.5, granted the pilot is a heavy vehicle. I would not even drive the 3.5 because I knew I would take it home. The whole reason I got this car was to increase my gas mileage from my 06 Frontier Nismo.

Sure the 2.5 does get better mpg but the 3.5 doesn't get bad by any means. I'm pulling 32 mpg doing 60mph in my 05' 3.5se with a few mods and gettin about 24 combined and I got a lead foot. Go with the better engine, its no wonder its used in a ton of infiniti and nissan cars. It's been on top ten engines for over ten years now. Get the vq.

What about when you wash your car? Did you not open the lid to let the water that get stuck in there out?

Don't buy the 2.5 unless you get a 6 spd. CVT's suck the life out of the driving experience. It's as close to driving a car with an electric motor as you can get. If that's what turns you on then go for it.

ok the way i see it here it will cost you 5 dollors more per tank of gas . thats 260.00 per year to fill up the tank at 20 gallon tank based on 1 fill up per week . you will lose gas mpg just look at the avg. people get some say a few they get 32 mpg . must be down hill both ways lol. but most say around 22-23 is the avg. for 3.5 . i would say the avg. for the2.5 is 27-28 .so you can go 4120 more miles per year on the same 1 fill up per week in a year.next insurance cost it is much cheaper on the 2.5 . so i got a 2.5 i saved a lot of cash per year.and if you run high octan in the 2.5 you will get 30-33 mpg avg no problem. ps you will save 2500.00 on the cost of the car. 2.5 sticker is much cheaper than 3.5 .2500.00 over the life of the loan is big bucks.

Just as an FYI, I drive 1.5hours/day to and from work (26-28mi each direction (depending on how you go) and with extra driving around, my milage is usually around 300 mi/week and I put in just over half a tank. Currently we have over 400 mi on this tank and over 1/4 of a tank left so to fill the tank, you'd have to be doing 450-550 mi/week. that's alot of driving and a good reason to look into the hybrid instead of either of the two regular gas engines.

My MPG on the Computer says 29.8mpg right now and that is with mostly 50-55mph country driving(through 25mph towns), about 20mi of 70mph highway, and with a half hour of sitting in traffic by outlet stores near lake george NY (max speed of 5mph). Before we left it was 31.2mpg and tomorrow is Gas sale day so we'll see how things go with actual calculations.

Oh and yeah... I saw my gas cap and knew from the start I'd be using premium before I even bought the GS-R but I probably never actually read the sticker inside. I also never had any water collect behind the gas door becase the bottom of the insert was sloped down so water wouldn't collect. Honda and toyota learned that real quick as that was the first place on most of their cars that rusted in the 80's. Neither of my integras, my wife's civic, or my prelude gathered water there. Come to think of it, I don't think I've ever read any gas cap as any car [that required premium] I've owned (except for the nissan) says it right by the arrow pointing to the side of the car the tank is on.

I think you just made me think thayt the 2.5 will be just fine for me. I have test drove a 2006 pilot and it felt very responsive and pretty darn quick for an suv. So if a 07 2.5 Altima can beat that, its just fine. I went from a 99 GT mustang with mods to a chrysler pacifica due to kids and it felt dirt slow after coming from a v8 sports car. Now im used to it as well as my fiances civic which i drive alot as well. I think the 2.5 altima will feel like a rocket after these last two cars i have been driving.

Thanks,

I'm actually dreading this reality.

There's going to be a bunch of Sentras and Altimas cruising around sounding like low-floor transit busses. :p

Cvt and 2.5 : what speeds in gears??

The 2.5 and CVT trans. : what speeds do you get at near redline? How often do you drive it using the manual shift feature on the cvt? Why or why not? I think it would be fun (was fun in the brief test drive), but in 3rd, & 4th gears, to what spd can u use those ratios on the hwy ??
thanks.

1996 ES 300 has 198HP

I used to have a 1996 Lexus ES300 with a 6-cylinder and it was approx 170-175 HP, I believe. I would say the 2.5S is comparable. And if not, it's at least close. Although, the very next year Lexus upped the HP and/or torque and it was *significantly* faster/more responsive. I drove one as a loaner and it made mine seem sluggish. So -- yeah, it's like a sluggish V6 of the past, but it's certainly peppy for a 4cyl.

I've read consumer reviews of the new Camry on Edmunds and person after person with the 4-cyl said it drives like a slug. You don't get that with the Altima 2.5S. (The consumer reviews of the Altima are almost all positive regarding performance). Still, if you want performance ... you will still know that the 2.5S just has a 4-cyl. Long story short, you really do need to test drive them to determine whether the few extra miles per gallon lost to the 6-cyl is worth the significant decrease in performance.

Again -- just my opinion, but thanks for listening to me ramble. lol
198hp in Lexus es 300... the next gen beginning in 1999 has 210hp.
