You could still use the case from the 2nd gen which will have the crank position sensor but the guts from a 93-94. It's complicated but doable.

all of that for a CPS??? damn that. i mean if you want one that bad you can just tap one in and weld a bung to the transmission :p

^^^ Other heavily boosted Altimas have experienced the same problem with 3rd gear.

im not gonna be doing any racing in the winter, so ill tear down my '94 LSD and have its gears sent off for cryo/shot peen (just $500, worth a shot). failing that i'll see if IPT will do me a fully built manual. failing THAT.. ill revert back to auto and do a fully built auto :(

would be so much easier if we were just RWD..

agreed

...DO IT! I smell a new project for you. Drop in a red top SR with a 240sx subframe, and graft in the strut towers from an s13. An altima to a 240sx is like humans and chimps. It's only a few genes....

Our transmission our just fine for decent hp you just have to be gentle on them, the only thing that I don't like about them are the gear ratios and the final drive ratios. I changed the ratio on my 3rd gear and the final drive also, but now I have a comepletely new gearset with all custom ratios,so if any one wants to pick my up my old gears shot me a pm .

I know you can use parts from the gti-r the easiest, next would be using parts from a bluebird sss, and finally you can do a b15 tranny but you are talking so much custom work that an adaptor plate would be the easy part. Are you good with welding though cause I will go to the 240 shop by me and talk to the guy there that does transmission building, cause he normally will tell people how to do the work for free. I would go the gti-r route though and crynoing and shot peening can do wonders.

you speaking from experience about cryo/shot peen?

i was gonna +1 for RWD... but that would set you back a while... it would be worth it... bcuz honestly... full built RWD altima... i think my seats would stay wet.
heck alotta fabrication etc... but too actually complete it... disgusting.

if u would like some input on cryo/ shot peen... ill talk to my cousin about it.. 17yrs experience at his shop alone + plus years.. ill b going monday or tuesday to do my oil so ill get you a word.

I have one friend and one acquitance who have both used it on there cars one a 350z the other a 82 trans am, as well as a friend who is a pilot who has his equipment regularly treated. My plan is to do both due to the fact that if you thinking about the process it makes sense it would work and two I have not seen a complaint yet about it.

im trying to get a relative idea of how far i can push a tranny if its cryo/peened. what were they doing on their parts that were c/p?

My friend had his 350z's rods done and maybe the pistons but I know a place called MRC did his rods and its a daily driver with 427whp and never has he had a problem. My friend had his transmision done in his trans am we have never seen a problem but due to continual engine builds it has only been pushed a couple times. There is a good write up on crynoing somewhere online I will try and find it for you. I am thinking that you should get a decent amount more push because the molecules will be come more compact and tighter allowing for a greater amount of pressure being able to be applied.

Did some fun searching for you guys just now about the 6-speed transmission.
The code is RS6F51 A/H. A = open diff, H = Helical LSD.

Now, this box came in the following stateside Nissans:
02-03 Sentra SE-R Spec V (all with HLSD)
04+ Sentra SE-R Spec V (all with HLSD, different gearing/FD than the 02-03)
02-03 Maxima (some with HLSD, different gearing/FD than the Sentras)
04-06? Maxima (some with HLSD in 04, different gearing/FD than Sentras and 02-03 Maximas)
Altima SE-R's (years?) (I think all were open-diffs, not sure on gearing)

Basically, that's TWO engines it was attached to: the QR25 and the VQ35.

BUT, outside of the states, it was attached to the P12 Primera, where it was attached to an SR20.

AND outside of the Nissan realm, the RS6F51A/V is the same 6-speed attached to the 2nd gen Hyundai Tiburons, and supposedly the same gearbox attached to the Toyota Celica, Toyota Matrix, Mazda 6, and maybe others. I can't verify the others but I can verify it's the Tiburon transmission.

The point is, there's at least 3 different Nissan casings for this gear box, and who knows how many others. Maybe one of those would attach to the KA's bolt pattern? Or at least come close? If it comes within one or two bolts missing, that's still pretty good and probably wouldn't hurt to attach it. On top of that, have you guys given any though to tapping the case molding so that you can attach bolts through the KA to it? Just throwing out ideas.

good research work, thanks for that. but quit googling and start making traction rods ;)

crazy that it's been adapted to that much stuff. im going to go with a cryo/shotpeen and possibly this: Hewland Gearbox | Jerico Transmissions | Quaife Transmission | Tilton Clutch | Racing Driveline

if that doesnt hold then ill start looking at slightly more involved options such as swapping trannies altogether such as you're saying.
That looks pretty good and isn't to expensive either. Eclypse do you know anything about phantom grips ? They have a spring to upgrade the stock lsd but I am not sure if I trust them.
