Anybody know? I'll dig deeper into this when I get home, but I'm reading online that those trannies are far stronger than ours.. input from Asleep, Slow01, 98alti, Jserrano, anybody else?
good research work, thanks for that. but quit googling and start making traction rods![]()
thats why i asked about B15's, cus they were beefed in 2000. interesting/good point about perhaps the same was done to Altimas. that would be extremely good news indeed. i wont have time to research this til this weekend but that may be a good lead. if its made to hold 3.5 worth of power (and im sure they accounted for probable bolt ons to an already popularly modified motor) that'd suggest our trannies have promise to at least the 300whp area.. and if not the same manufacturing process, we have a direct gut swap of options that ARE reliable to that level..Hey Eclypse, something I forgot to mention:
The 02+ Altima 5-speed gear box, for both 2.5 and 3.5, is coded RS5F50, the same as our old 5-speeds (and the same code as the 91-99 Maximas). If I were you, I'd search around the 3.5 forums and see how their 5-speeds are holding up.
One thing to note is that in 2000 Nissan, for whatever reason, decided to beef up some of their gear boxes on the FWD models. The 2000 Sentra with SR20DE has a MUCH stronger 5spd than the old 91-99 Sentra 5spds (they had larger gear stacks, more/stronger teeth, etc.). Maybe the later model Altima boxes aren't any different from ours, but maybe they are?
I know the 2000-01 hold more but if the 02 3.5 uses the same one than my thoughts would be they can handle atleast 350whp which would be nice.Hey Eclypse, something I forgot to mention:
