Just some pics for now...:) And excuse the debris on the floor. I ran over in time and had to let the poor guy whose car I was tearing apart go home.

This kit is NOT the same as the footwell kit used for the other generations of the Altima. I had to make some adaptations to it, and the connection point will have to be different. The rear portion will be able to be used as well.:) Sadly, the switch will not be able to be used for this kit due to the lack of blank slots in many of the newer models. I was however able to make the kit light up manually by using the switch for the dome light in the roof by the map lights.

I am going to have to research my cost on a part from Nissan to make this work and a few other things as well, so don't ask me about pricing or availability yet. I will post all of that when I have it figured out.

Oh man I was waiting for this!! I had this in my 2005 altima and I miss it dearly. Keep us posted :)

You really didn't think I was not going to try and do it, did you? :)

Looks good BT as usual. Goodluck with finalizing the product :)
Thank you sir!

The car that I had yesterday to work with was a 2.5SL with the Tech Package. I stated earlier that the switch kit would not be available, but I could have sworn that I saw a blank slot in one of the cars at the dealership the other day. The car I put the kit into had the heated steering wheel and traction control, and I am pretty sure that not all of the cars have those options. So...help me out a bit and post some pics of the area on the left side of your dash where the switches are, just above the fuse access door. If you do, post which model your car is please...(S,SL,SE)

I'll try an have a pic for you later tonight.

If you need another Guinea Pig, I'm fairly close (Snohomish), I have a 5th gen SV without Tech or Convenience, and I'm old enough to buy beer :D

I have the basic install down...but what I encountered in the other car makes me want to do at least one more kit myself to make sure I have all of the bases covered when I write the instruction manual for the car.

PM me for details, and being able to buy beer gets you an automatic bump on the list...and the fact that I work better when drinking it...:wall:

I have no where to upload a pic but on my 2.5 sL (no tech package) I have a free spot for a switch

It could, but I personally do not like that idea. I know that in my car, the added light in the footwell area will cause a reflection in the windshield and side windows that can be distracting. For the sake of safety, I will continue to make the kit in the manner it is made now.

There will however be the connections to put a switch in if desired. The on/off/on switch offered for the 3rd and 4th gen cars allows the footwells to be manually switched on while the doors are closed...independently of the dome light. Unfortunately, this switch will not fit into the slots in the 5th gen car. I am currently looking for an alternate switch that will work and not look out of place inside the 5th gen car. This may take the form of a switch mounted elsewhere...I do not know yet.

What about with the interior dome light and timer? For example, open the door and just like the interior lights come on, have the footwells come on and then go after with the dome light after a few seconds or after you close the door. Personally, I don't care to see my feet lit up during the whole ride as I know some do, but I do like the idea of lighting up as sort of a "welcome to the inside of the car" as you open the door.

This is exactly how it will work...

It will mirror the existing dome light's characteristics, have the same brightening/dimming effects, and also the timer function once all doors are closed.

The older generations of the car had a 30 minute delay before the lights went out with the doors open. I noticed on the car I worked on the other day that it was more like 5 or 10 minutes. Same thing there, when the dome light goes out, the footwell will go out.

Simple, clean, and totally plug n play. Even easier to install than the 3-4 gen kits. This should take the average person approximately 30 minutes to install this front kit from start to finish. The only hiccup will be if you already have either the illuminated kick plates or puddle lights, but provisions for those will be in the installation manual.

-12LED strips for both sides
-VERY simple install with a color photo installation guide (pdf)
-Truly plug n play
-Only a phillips and slotted screwdriver needed for install, and maybe some electrical tape
-Choice of 4 colors (white/blue/amber/red)
-Provision in wiring harness for a switch (on order)
-Optional rear footwell area kit available (plugs into front kit)

The issue I am going to have with these is going to be order turn time. I have no idea how many of these kits are going to sell and there is a part included in the kit that I have to get from Nissan. I really don't feel like ordering 100 at a time, or even 20 for that matter, so it may take a few days for that part at times.

I guess I can give you all the bad news now...

Front kit pricing will be $54
Rear kit pricing will be $30
Shipping should be somewhere around $6

I think I lived up to my promise...$60 for a front footwell kit is under $100 and significantly less than $200 from elsewhere :wall:

Thanks,
Bill

Found a small rocker switch that is on/off/on. This will allow the footwell kit to be used as all of the others have...

Auto mode-functioning with dome light
Off-completely off
Manual On-will allow the footwell lights to be turned on independently of the dome light. (when doors are closed)

It will require drilling a hole somewhere to utilize it, but I believe it will be nearly completely hidden mounted under the dash near the hood release.

The second 2013 Altima footwell kit by BT Designs is successfully installed!

A big thanks to cwstnsko for making the trip up to my place this afternoon for the install. His car is the SV model without any of the Nissan lighting accessories installed, so it was a good car to use for a test fit. Although I do not have the switches that will be offered for this kit yet, I used one of the switches from a 4th generation Altima kit to test for functionality, and it worked perfectly...so, the kit will have the capability of the optional switch.

A bunch of pictures were taken of the footwell lights and the trunk, and I should have those up later today or tomorrow.

I can't thank BT enough for letting me be a test fit for this kit. The light is awesome! Nice and bright and very even. I tried to get pictures, but BT's shots turned out much better than mine. This kit is very straight forward and looks to be an easy install. We talked a bit and took quite a few pictures, and it still went in really quick and easy. It did help that BT already knew which panels needed to come out and how to get them out properly. Hopefully the pictures turned out well and his installation guide will make it very easy for people like me to do this ourselves! Thanks again BT, it was nice to meet you in person!

P.S. my wife was very pleased with the look of both the footwells and the trunk

OK. I have enough photos and understand what is going on with the 5th gen car well enough to release these for sale sometime next week.

The switch will be an option for this kit, BUT I personally do not find it necessary. With the capability of turning on the footwells with the dome light switch in the overhead console (on with the dome light), it allows for the extra light on the floor pans to look for something that has been dropped. The only reason I would order the optional switch kit would be if you want to drive around with just the footwells on all of the time, or want the capability to turn them off completely when the doors are open. During the installation yesterday, we found that the footwells WILL go on with the doors open if the dome light cancel has been turned on in the overhead console.

The footwell lights are tied into the battery saver feature of the car which I now understand to be user settable. This is the same feature on the vehicle that turns off the dome light when the doors have been left open. This will also happen with the switch kit installed, even in the manual mode.

As I stated before, this is not the same kit that was built for the 3rd and 4th gen Altimas. Those kits required tapping into the dome light under the A-pillar on the driver side of the car. This kit utilizes the factory, accessory wiring port that Nissan has put into the vehicle. It does require me to buy the plugs that Nissan uses to utilize that port, which is why this kit is priced differently than the previous ones.

I am sure that there are some people smart enough out there to try and do their own kit...more power to you. I would caution anyone who attempts it NOT to try and use the factory ports without the Nissan plug. The wiring on the vehicle installed side of the plug is very small and will not be suitable for tapping into with reliable results.

I have 2 wiring kits ready to go right now if anyone would like to get in on this before Racingline puts them up. PM me for details.

These will be coming available hopefully this weekend. After much deliberation, and some consulting with Taz at Racingline, the kit will be offered with 2 options...

Kit 1 will fit the cars that do not have the Nissan external lighting or lighted sill plates
Kit 2 will fit the cars that DO have one of those lighting kits already

Kit 2 will be less $$$ due to me not having to include a part.

Rear kits will be an add on option for both and same $$$. Same with the optional switch.

Gonna put some pressure on this member...

He is the only one of you guys that I know of that had a 3rd gen Altima and now has a 5th gen car. His 3rd gen had the footwell lighting kit for that model in it. His kit for his new car was sent out today via Priority Mail and he SHOULD have it by Friday at the latest. That kit is a front/rear in white without a switch. Looking to him for some pics and feedback on the installation manual that he will receive via email later today...

:wall:

Thank you sir!

You know...you are one of the few long standing members who does not have a kit.;)

Installation manual is done and emailed out to the three people who pre-ordered kits!!!

For those who have seen one of my manuals, it is done in a similar style. For those who have not...it is quite literally a step by step process with color photos. Look at the 3rd gen FAQ forum for a couple of my 'How To's' and you can get the idea.
