OK. I have enough photos and understand what is going on with the 5th gen car well enough to release these for sale sometime next week.
The switch will be an option for this kit, BUT I personally do not find it necessary. With the capability of turning on the footwells with the dome light switch in the overhead console (on with the dome light), it allows for the extra light on the floor pans to look for something that has been dropped. The only reason I would order the optional switch kit would be if you want to drive around with just the footwells on all of the time, or want the capability to turn them off completely when the doors are open. During the installation yesterday, we found that the footwells WILL go on with the doors open if the dome light cancel has been turned on in the overhead console.
The footwell lights are tied into the battery saver feature of the car which I now understand to be user settable. This is the same feature on the vehicle that turns off the dome light when the doors have been left open. This will also happen with the switch kit installed, even in the manual mode.
As I stated before, this is not the same kit that was built for the 3rd and 4th gen Altimas. Those kits required tapping into the dome light under the A-pillar on the driver side of the car. This kit utilizes the factory, accessory wiring port that Nissan has put into the vehicle. It does require me to buy the plugs that Nissan uses to utilize that port, which is why this kit is priced differently than the previous ones.
I am sure that there are some people smart enough out there to try and do their own kit...more power to you. I would caution anyone who attempts it NOT to try and use the factory ports without the Nissan plug. The wiring on the vehicle installed side of the plug is very small and will not be suitable for tapping into with reliable results.
I have 2 wiring kits ready to go right now if anyone would like to get in on this before Racingline puts them up. PM me for details.
